There was also a seaplane base at Kalafrana.

Pics of the modern field (Luqa?) with a good description of wartime field.

This page has a German aerial photograph of Ta'Quali (pretty small though): http://www.accessweb.com/users/mconstab/beurling.htm

While we're on the topic, is there a resource anywhere with locations of the major airfields during the Med./N. African campaign '40-'43? Or were most of the airfields in N. Africa just temporary stop gap affairs comprised of a few tents and any convenient level and smooth patch of desert?

Looking at that political map of Malta (first one in Bishop's post) makes me wonder if the planes and terrain in sdoe are not to the same scale. (ie: Planes are much bigger than terrain, foot for foot or metre for metre)

I read somewhere the terrain scale was about 1/3 for Dover, 1/15 for Africa, and 1 for Rhineland... When I tried to apply satellite pics to Dover, SDOE's Abbeville field was *much* larger than the textured image of the city itself. BTW the terrain is totally out of place, but I don't really blame SDOE for not having a realistic terrain... In fact it's quite fun to fly from Sicily to Egypt and back to Tunisia in 10 minutes in a Spit

Pachy - I understand why they did it for Africa, but I'm not impressed. Also I did a map search once for the towns in the Rhineland terrain, and discovered that the riverbed is totally out of line as well.

I think they could have done 1:1 for Dover as well as Rhineland, and left Africa the way it is.
