Yee-ha! I set up a quick mission using 3 F4U's against 5 Zero's and what a rush it is to play. Both planes handle close enough to the real things to the point where BnZ really works, and works great. The hard part is not ramming the Zero and dealing with the AI getting into turning fights with the Zero and doing that 'loosing' thing that happens when you try to out turn a Zero in a Corsair...IP: Logged |

you should try it over the new pacific terrain. ------------------ Tony "Razer" Martin "Making SDOE a dangerous Place, One plane at a time!" FS Hangar IP: Logged |

Hi Whirlwind. Not to toot my own horn, but you should try that mission with the engine damage I have created. I made a very similar mission myself and it is amazing to see how adding engine damage effects adds so much to the immersion effect. If you are interested, send me an email. I could sure use the testing help. So far, feedback has been very positive. ------------------ Condor out IP: Logged |

I personally think the Corsair is the coolest plane in the game and the real world so I love flying against the Zero.I just flew 1v4 Zeros in a F4UB and killed them off without problems. But when flying a Zero it is impossible to hit the Corsair. How do you guys do it? (even in a turn fight) Condor, I'd love to help for the Zero and Corsair if you want. Hehe well you're gonna LOVE what's coming soon then Condor's engine damage, tweaked to be Corsair-specific. Control-surface damage. Adjusted obHits, so it dies when it should. Better energy bleed on the Corsair, so it can't just run away at will. Mace's carrier-ops gear. If I can figure out how to get the Corsair to be a little more "draggy" in tight turns, this will be a "thinking man's fight" instead of just "bobbing for Zeros." For the Zero (having done a LOT of Zero vs Corsair testing, as you might suspect) I really think the main problem is the gunsight and pilot view alignment. There is simply no "space" to pull a deflection shot in a turn against your target and keep him in sight below the gunsight. Increasing the size of the gunsight glass, and moving the pilot viewpoint and convergence point "up" would make a huge difference in the "danger" of fighting a Zero. I'm not sure how "realistic" that would make the cockpit tho. The Corsair's cockpit is still basically a "placeholder," but the "real" gunsight and pilot viewpoint for that plane is even HIGHER than where it is in the model (and yes, there is a new cockpit coming at some point also) Hehe I wouldn't use the F4U-4 as a representative test. Mongo guns with lots of ammo. I really only put it in there to fight Me-262s and MiG-15s someday (and the Shinden if it ever gets finished Using it against Zeros isn't quite cricket! ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

JediPlease DON'T move the zero gunsight or "normal" pilot's position. One of the tricks pilots had to learn was how to lead a target below the nose of the plane. Since we can't shift the piots view position, I use the padlock feature to do the same thing. Makes things fun. The problem I'm having with the zero is I keep losing the canopy on the M5 when flying inverted. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Well jedi the F4U4 is fun for sawing through Zeros! BTW you can shift up your view as if you leaned forwards. Press CTRL 7 and 1 to move up and down. In the Zero if you move it all the way up the rounds converge on the top of the metal gunsight which is handy for aiming.jedi, hows your Hellcat coming along? I saw a pic of it a while back and it looked pretty cool. If you want a beta tester for any of your planes just mail me, I'd love to help. BTW in the F4U-4B when in padlock sometimes I see the machine gun from the pilots head. Condor I got your DM and I'll be trying it soon, thanks. Thanks Snake IP: Logged |

You can shift the view. Ctrl-Home and Ctrl-End move your view up and down. Shift-Keypad5 puts it back in the center. Think of it as raising and lowering your seat. I'm pretty sure most fighters can do that.I use the view shift all the time when I get in a turning fight. If you start firing at a ground target or at a flying target that's not maneuvering then you'll want to re-center it. IP: Logged |

Hehe I never knew you could shift the view! Yeah, I need to fix the pilot (although I never see the gun on mine, somehow that version is what became standard) Hellcat in the hangar until work on the SBD is complete. P.S. I wouldn't be the one changing the Zero--not "my" plane, after all. Besides, moot point if you can move the view using CTL-7, etc...

Brother, it seems like you nvere quit finding out about features in this game.I didn't know the view could be shifted either Jedi. Is there a command to shift the view point right or left for when you're taking off in a taildragger?

It only moves the view about half a foot in real life, if ya know what I mean. SnakeIP: Logged |
