Well I just re-built my system - biggest improvement is a Voodoo5 AGP (over a voodoo3 PCI) - and ATA66 support instead of ATA33. Also a seperate hard drive for game installs.Anyway, I had to re-install all my games. As part of this process, I play each game a few minutes to make sure all my setting are correct, etc. So in goes Fly!, then MSCFS1, then FUIII, then MSCFS2, then Need for Speed High Stakes, then Unreal, then... finally, SDOE. All I can say is that NOTHING touches SDOE! Nothing has that feel, that smooth, real world feel... the control surfaces move just right, the virtual cockpit just feels in perfect place - the ground handling is simply amazing. I started with the B17... with Meatwaters sounds... started the engines one at a time... taxi out... full spead ahead. Now just a few months ago I saw the real thing lift off at my local airport, and SDOE captured the moment... ...then to jump in the tail gunner position and watch the runway fade away... like being there. Move the gun around a bit, fire a few shots... back the cockpit for a landing. I purposfully botch the landing (a SDOE fave), WOW. Pieces break off, and BTW, SDOE has THE BEST explosions ever!!! Even with no lighting effects. And just watch the wreckage, and the wheel spin off... Why is it that SDOE is so much past the other sims? What is it that makes it feel so real? From the look to the physics, who could ask for more? PLEASE, PLEASE - MH, MIGHTY, ETC, make us a patch! Fix the on-line bugs and other little things... increase the max texture resolution, add dopler pitch shift, and fix the engine sound being tied to the throttle instead of the RPM. You know the rest  With this patch, SDOE would grow and become the successful sim that it was meant to be... and showcase the OpenPlane engine so that there can be more, more of this wonderful stuff!!!! ------------------

I agree. Nothing out there can touch SDOE. I am sure it has grown beyond what Activision suspected. I even suspect it has grown beyond what MH and Mighty saw in their wildest dreams (well, maybe not their wildest ones )....I also agree. We (the community) have contributed to this game. Give us the ability to help you what it should have been (and more) from the beginning! Bryan - When you need someone to help beta test OPS 2000 let me know! Yep--its sooo true. Sim after sim comes down the pike and I just keep coming back to SDOE for all of the above reasons. Those that passed it off as a loser when it came out and haven't cranked it up recently are missing out on the real sensation of flying --from the challenging takeoffs , thru the beautiful dogfights (especially WWI, SV), down to the various airports that you land at that can have nice, long flat runways, or short, narrow "humpy" runways.
Just flew a mission in the Africa Invasion Campaign and my P51 caught some bullets from a 109 in the left wing. I came home victoriously (for a change) and lowered my gear only to find that those bullet holes in my left wing meant that my left gear wouldn't come down. Had to make a one wheel landing on the narrow runway on the island off the N. Africa Coast. Flew it on to the right gear in a wheel landing attitude on the right side of the runway and held it there till the speed bled off and the left wing touched and it spun around onto the center of the runway just like it would've in real life and I just revelled in how much I love this sim. (Sparks flying when the wing touched would be a nice addition for some of you SDOE gurus by the way).
Those that have to have the historical gameplay may not find it here--but if you like to fly airplanes--this is the one to have.
A patch would be so wonderful to finally have--hint hint. (As if we all haven't pleaded enough for one already). Until then, I'll just continue to be thrilled by all the little things that creep up in the game and make me smile (and its coming up on 2 years now since I bought this game).AQ IP: Logged |

I just got MSCFS2..and after all the habub about it I was expecting to be blown away.
My friend was watching me play it, and all I heard myself telling him was "sdoe is better because this and sdoe is better because that"
cfs2 is a good game,its runs smooth and all
but the planes (IMO) dont handle or look as good as sdoe. And the feeling of being in the cockpit?...well Janes WW2 fighters does good there too but when ya add up everything (grafics,FM,DM ect) sdoe still way on top!
I saw SDOE packaged with 4 other flight sims.
$20 for 5 sims..*sigh* I felt like putting up a sign in front of it telling people what they are missing and maybe having a VCR playing sdoe clips. All you guys are great! thank you very much for all the add ons! and BTW I forgot who made it (sorry) but those sounds I DL a few months ago KICK ASS!!
If SDOE was on the self with all these add ons this christmas.....we would have a few more millionaires for the IRS to rape  IP: Logged |

and you know whats even better, just look whats goping on now with SDOE! It's getting so much better and so damn quickly, over the last 6 months theres been a massive boom in what we can do, we've got new terrains, masses of new aircraft, new tations, realistic radio chatter in any language we want, the FM is now so realstic you might aswell be in a Simulator Chamber, Damage modeling whith whats currently in developement leaves every other sim todate in it's wake.To me it's such a sad thing that we as a group can't package the game up with an upgrade CD and have them put it up for sale again, like Vagner said, so maney people just don't know what they are missing here, and the way they treat this game knowing what I know about it is scandelous. It needs boxing up with the upgrades and selling again, we don't want money for what we've done, we just want this sim to be recognised for what it is.. still the best all round Flight Simulator out there, and it'll be that way for a long time.. ~Nat~ ------------------

The best is still the best!
Many cool sims have come out lately and more are coming. They all have something outstanding. B17II has a real, moving crew. CFSII has great damage effects. Bob has, hmmm, what does Bob have? The fact is that these new sims my have one or two things better than SDOE but in the end only SDOE has it all. 1- SDOE has realistic flying airplanes.
2- SDOE has great virtual cockpits with camera panning.
3- SDOE has several flyable bombers with gun positions that are useable.
4- SDOE has ground objects with usable guns.
5- SDOE has several nations to fly for and against.
6- SDOE has great graphics with detailed planes and gound units with moving parts.
7- SDOE game does not end if you crash or mission is over.
8- SDOE will let you jump from plane to plane to ground unit.
9- SDOE has on-line multiplayer.
10- SDOE has the ability to expand with user made planes, ships, ground units, terrain,
and more!
11- The best part-SDOE has talented, dedicated people that work hard and long to bring us the greatest planes and stuff ever created anywhere by anybody! I am sure there is more that could be added to this list so please do. ------------------

*wiping a tear* It's absolutely amazing to me that SDOE remains the red-headed step child of flight sims in some online communities. I have flown almost every combat sim out there and SDOE has easily the most to offer. And yet it gets soundly panned any time it's mentioned in the newsgroups.
Are we so ignorant that we can't see the terrible faults of this sim? Are we blind? I ask you! What is it that keeps people from getting into SDOE? It certainly ain't the price LOL! E IP: Logged |

When they hear that SDOE has got a user community, they think it's one of those typical, unfriendly ones. People hear that SDOE has got some new planes, they instantly think they are the same crappy quality as the FS and CFS add-ons!------------------

well said!! i think this sim is the best around. OK so it doesent have the flashy lighting efects and ok mayby it doesent have huge scenerys like cfs2 but it will run ok on a standerd pc(u dont need a p4000 900000000mhz to run it like Rowens BoB)and the addons are of sutch a good quality there are so many of them. A friend of mine came round after school on day last week and i booted up sdou just to test out a little fun mission i made with aome tanks and typhoon loaded with rockets (u can put together what happend ) and my friend sat looking at the screen as i launched my rockets off at a tank and he asked me "is this a new game or somthing"because he had never heard of it untill then. people need to be told about what a good game this is.when i first got sdou on the first day of release i played it for a while and was kinda unimpressed and i went out and got cfs1, last september i booted up sdou again and though ile look on the net to see if there are any patches and that is when i stumbled across u guys and hear i am. ------------------

This Game ABSOLUTELY Rocks. I loved it to death and i am online as much as possible getting shot at and getting shot at some more.. I haven't heard of any other comparable sim that has a community as great & dedicated to it as there is with the Fighter Squadron SDOE Community! I've introduced a few folks to this sim and now they love it too. Yes I am an addict but what FUN I'm having being an addict too.. Sniff sniff...all I can smell is a mutt. Karaya 2 =FC=

But...
The AI is Horrible when it is atacking Bombers.
The Explosions have to much punch(I drop bomb at 1500fts and I blow away)
The engines damage in B17s are horrible(When one is on fire, in a short time the b17 lost it)
The scenery is too small
The flack at height are to precise
The B17 are unable to mantain formation
When you take off whith "ENABLE TORQUE EFFECT" and "ENABLE TAKE OFF WIND" you can not control the airplane.
AND OTHER THINGSBUT I REALLY LOVE THIS GAME!

You got to give a hand to Mauricio, as he points out we all know there are faults in this great game but are not afraid to still say "we really love this game!" and with time and work another bug will disappear into obscurity, and the game will just be that much more fun to play! I love this game! (and just like the girl you asked out as a kid) the dreaded BUT....Asking for a patch is like asking a 3 legged donkey with a stick up its arse to run the grand national....IT will never happen. What we need is to be allowed to edit the coding ourselves and realease it as an official patch. If they say NO then just wait a few years for copywrite to perish? I'd just like to say that this sim has gone from average (on release) to Beyond any flyer expectations in a short time. Thanx to all who participate in this! Cheers! The only two quibals I'd have is target lock is pants and enemy on map in multi player takes away the challenge.......there i'm done..he he  Great! ------------------

SV and some other great guys are working on a patch.
that will fix lots of stuff and bring new areanas of gameplay into this game like water and lots of other stuff.
and slow berner the 3 leged horse with a stick up its arse comes home in a sensational 1st place with odds of 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999 to 1
