As a result of the Sea Hurricane Project, I've updated Bryan Russell's original land based Hurricane. The Hurricane can now be 'loaded out' as either a Mk I or Mk II.

Mk I & Mk IIA - eight .303 cal machine guns
Mk IIB - twelve .303 cal machine guns
Mk IIC - four 20 mm cannons
Mk IID - two 40 mm Vickers 'S' tank buster cannons

Mk II can carry two 250lb or two 500lb bombs under the wings. Eight 3 inch rocket projectiles can also be used. The Mk II configurations gives the 'hurri' much more punch for pilots and mission creators. I've also addressed some key flight model issues:

*Main wing airfoil has been modified in an effort to reduce the high incidence of spinning during high 'g' and high angle of attack turns above 15,000 ft. The 'hurri' will still spin but it needs to be provoked and recovery (out spin rudder / aileron and nose down) is faster.

*Main wheels replaced; which stopped the violent pitching when wheel brakes were applied in the air after take off

*Flaps, left gear, cockpit shell, rudder and tail wheel realigned
*Damage model redone
*Aircraft shadow has been aligned correctly
*Misaligned mid wing damage tips replaced
*Prop Fast, Soft and Bent replaced to resolve texture conflicts
*Rocket mounts and bomb pylons added
*12 x .303cal guns, 4 x20 mm cannons and 2 x 40mm cannons added
*Floor added to cockpit (via skin)
*Moving control stick added
*Added new gear and throttle controls
*Fuel and Radiator Temp gauges fixed
*Rudder gap seal added
*Removed unnecessary instrument needles
*Added new pilot's seat
*Pilot whose head moves insync with stick added
*Pilot's arm moves to open canopy

Hurricane Mk I/II (556k) which includes ten training missions; available at:

Sea Hurricane Mk I/II (718k) which includes thirteen training missions; available at:

Mace, one problem: Your Navy pilots parachute is broken. I can fix it if you like?

Alright! That's pretty sweet. Its nice to see some people are making efforts to do work on planes that have been released, but aren't quite "there" yet.

cheers,
charm

ArgonV thanks for the feedback. Odd about the parachute. Works OK on two PC's I installed the update on. Does the parachute appear when the pilot bails out or does it break away from the pilot? (as if the rigging lines have broken)

The parachute falls away and the pilot drops like a brick. He doesnt "bounce" when his chute deploys implying that the parachute got detached.

When I first installed SDOE, I noticed this parachute'break away' problem with all aircraft. It seems to be function of the aircraft's airspeed. If the pilot bails out at a reasonable speed (below 200 mph) the chute sticks with the pilot. If the pilot jumps out at high speed the chute breaks away from him. If you have a fix for this it would be great.

mace, I just tested the origonal pilot that came in the Hurr.zip that you have. The parachute is broken no matter what speed I bail at. He just plumets along with his chute. I'll send you the updated hurpilot.sm now that fixes this problem.

I've uploaded the above Hurris to sdoe but now seem to have broken my online compatability. I guess this is because the others in the game don't have these new Hurricane FMs/loadouts? I tried to join an online game with Bulldog and had a mismatch on the Hurri Mk1. Any ideas on restoring my online std or do I have to wait till everybody else gets the above Hurricanes as well? This is particularly alarming me because I have recently made a lot of Battle of Britain missions which include the Hurri Mk1 which I want to play online with others but fear that ther'll be a ton of mismatches.
Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Kar, one solution to your problem is too have 2 hurricane directories in the aircraft directories, one contains no sm files and is called say Hurrmkipp6 and the other contains Maces update called say Hurrmkimace. When you are online rename Hurrmkipp6 to Hurrmki, and when offline revert to Hurrmkipp6 and then rename Hurrmkimace to Hurrmki. Just a smaller version of having duplicate aircraft directories. Or better still get a bigger hard drive and have 2 completely seperate installs of SDOE.

And while I'm here, great work Mace, a full set of Hurricane's in one small zip, Heaven.

Since the "standard" Hurricane is part of PP6, you should just be able to move the new Hurricane folders out of your media directory, and you'll have your online compatibility back. You can also rename the .sm files and folders for the new Hurricanes, but that gets a little complicated.

The best solution (if you have the disk space) is to create 2 separate installs of SDOE. Keep one "pristine," with just the online standard planes, etc, and use that one for online games. The other installation is your "skunk works" where you install beta terrains, new planes, etc for offline play/testing. That way a new add-on won't affect your online flying.

Thanks for the parachute fix ArgonV, much appreciated, I've posted an update. The Hurricane Mk I/II was intended for off line use but hopefully will become the on-line standard when the next plane pack is released.

Thank you Commando & Jedi, will probably do a separate install of Sdoe. Sounds like a good idea to me..
