I have recently finished 20+dogfight missions that are for on-line play and I'm in the middle of putting together the same amount of new Bombing missions. I'm doing this because I was just getting fed up with playing the same old missions and wanted to do Spin and the Plane builders credit for #6.

So anyway my question is: I wanted to do a mission using Torpedo's and olny found the loadout with the new Beaufighters but when running tests these Beau's have a really hard time when controlled by the computer. Take off is fine except on some versions they do not raise the gear but when up they keep going up and down uncontrollably to the point where they just end up smashing into the ground. I have tried placing them at 15k rather than at low level to make sure it was not speed related or height related but they sill pitch up and down 20degrees all the time. Is this a known bug and could anyone let me know if there are any other aircraft that can carry Torps.

Thanks

I believe argonV updated some loadouts to include torps and these were included in pp6, the zero was one and Im sure there were others. Can you include a real Dambusting mission in your 20 bombing missions ?

The Beaus have always ben AI un-friendly with or without the torpedo. The Zeros (Only the A6M5?) Beaufighters, and French Lancaster (Did the origonal Lancaster get the torpedo loadout?) have the torpedo loadout. On my install of SDOE I added the torpedo loadout on the Ju87, Pe2 and the Dauntless.

P.S. Do the Beaus in PP6 have one torpedo or 2? They are supposed to have 1 mounted to the fuse.

Argon,

The beaus have two (my fault) I didn't know how to assign the centre fuselage for them. Maybe you can send me a fixed loadout version for the next pack update.

The zeros, frlanc, and beaus now have torps. I can't remember if anything else did.

I *believe* the problem between the Beaufighters and AI lies in the center of gravity.

The original release (many moons ago) could be flown by the AI and only autopilot was screwy (a workaround was just to jump into the observer position... AI would take over and fly fine). Shortly after release ArgonV fixed up several things, including moving around things like the bombs and reducing the responsiveness of the plane (I believe by reducing the original airmax values).

When I was working on the version 2s I noticed that the AI was having trouble and my theory is that with the reduced airmax the AI does not have enough leverage to counter my crappy placement of COG.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time to fix this problem. Since then real life has been overwhelming and I won't get around to fix it for several more months.

In short, I apologize for problems with the Beaus and hope to someday fix them up (and maybe make a NEW plane??)

PS. The real beaufighter was longitudinally unstable

PPS. The only Beaufighters that should have torpedo loadouts are the Mk X and 21, the Mk VI primary anti-ship weapon was rockets and the Mk I was a BOB night-fighter (the only aircraft able to carry a radar without a decrease in performance)
