Spanky here... So this weekend i picked up a geforce 2 MX. Welp it didn't help my computer much at all. Its my CPU that needs to be upgraded, I could have told you that. but because of a lack of funds I decided to try a new vid card. Man Talk about a waste of money, thank god for return polices. I get MAYBE 10FPS more in SDOE and since i have to run it in D3D it looks like crap. Which brings up the question. How do you guys play it like that? I was getting texture wackyness in the distance REALLY annoying. If any one here playing it in D3D have played in glide, how did you switch over? Cause Boy I just couldn't stand it. Well back to the banshee and heres to hopeing I can find a board and chip combo that I can afford. Oh yeah I have a p2 333, Yes I should upgrade that before the vid card but I would have thought that it would have helped out a bit. Not even in SDOE but in other games. But nope still little choppy in games that are with the banshee.
Needless to say if you have an older proc, don't bother getting the geforce or probly any vid card hoping for better performance. save your pennies and get a new CPU. I know I am. PS I noticed theres alot of old classics on my shelves that are software or Glide only. Another reason to stick with the ol voodoo. My FPS in panzer elite actually dropped. IP: Logged |

I have a V3 2000 and hate SDOE in glide, horrid square sharpe edges to aircraft etc just didn't look natural to me, so blocky.. yuck, with D3D I don't have any probalems at all, no bad texture etc, infact, it looks stunning in D3D for me, smooth terrain, subtle edges to objects, I am ofcourse using high res but still, for me D3D is much better in SDOEIP: Logged |

Spanky here.. Blocky? Could ya post a screen shot? I'm at a loss for what you mean? At least with the voodoo 3000 you have the choice though.

Spanky, I could of told you that a Geforce card requires a higher processor. Get your processor first and then a V5 5500 AGP. Nat, I havent seen these "blocky" textures in Glide... All the screen shots Ive posted here were taken in Glide and most people praised my good lookin screen shots. I ask you aswell Nat where are these "blocky" testures? BTW I have V3 3000 AGP and P3 500 IP: Logged |

Spanky here.. JESUS how many times do I have to say that I KNOW I needed a CPU more, I was just trying the Vid card as an experiment. Unfortunatly not everyone can just go out and buy a new CPU and board every time they need one. frig. IP: Logged |

Just goes to show how prices differ worldwide! In the UK, I can get a Duron 750 plus a new Mobo for less than the cost of a top flight 3d card. Only downer for me is that I can't afford the 3d card as well! Just ordered the stuff, and with 64Meg of extra RAM thrown in, I have just pipped the cost of a sooper dooper 3d card.....but then I bought a new case and fan too. IP: Logged |

Just put the Voodoo 5 5500 in. SDOE looks nice in Glide... 1024X768 with the beta. However I have to use FSAA so that slows it down a bit. It does look really sweet with the 4X FSAA but the FR goes down too much. I think I've reached a compromise running at 800X600 with 2X FSAA. Also I think my processor is holding me back, it's just a K6-2 400.

Spanky here... WTG- I can do that here too. The Geforce2MX ISN'T a top flight 3d card. Its the budget geforce card. Reaper if i can only afford a geforce2mx and can't even afford a new board and chip, how in the world am I going to "just" put in a voodoo 5? Its over 500 canadian here. The geforce was only 229. a duron 700 is 130 and a gigabyte MB is 165. I'm guessing I'll wait a while until I can get that with any luck. I wasn't really bitching just telling ya guys to not expect great performance out of the geforce2MX if you don't have a great processer. I thought that since the mx was the budget card it would work better for low end CPUs, I was definatly wrong. I got a feeling this ol banshee will do me for quite a while after a new chip and board. Hey Spanky!I put a V5 5500 in my crate and what a difference! I was running a Banshee before and those are bulletproof cards. The V5 set me back $520 canadian but I saw them on for $430 or something at Electronic Boutique ( www.ebworld.com ) I dont find any difference between Glide and D3D. Maybe i'm doing something wrong. Oh and I'm running a Intel Celeron 466. ------------------ "Engines 1 and 2 are on fire, 4 is shot to hell...i'm doing fine...BOOM!...I think." IP: Logged |

Holy crap, Spanks!I got my Voodoo 5 5500 AGP off Egghead.com for $173 and it was here two days after I placed my order. Don't know how much 500 CDN is, but it sounds like a lot!!! ------------------ -=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Actually I just saw a voodoo 5500 for a decent price tonight when i returned the geforce2mx. I think it it was 399, Maybe even a bit lower. 500 canadian, hmm well I just got a check for 100 american and it turned into 140 canadian. I'm too tired to think right now but ya get the picture. LOL And yes sometimes its cheaper to order stuff from the states, pay the shiping and the duty and exchange rather then buy it in a canadian retail store. IP: Logged |

Hey all!Since this is one of the few sims that seem to work better with Glide, but most of the stuff coming out now is better served with a G-Force, why not go with the G-Force and add the 'ol Voodo2? Assuming the processer has some horsepower too Most of the tests I see, the G-Force kicks the V5? Best of both worlds! Budget permitting of course! Watch your six! This brings up a (dumb?) question. With the new breed of sims coming out, I am thinking it's coming close to time to upgrade my system. This will include an upgrade to my Voodoo3 3000 sometime soon after that. Q. Can I have both cards in my box at the same time? If so, will the sims allow me to choose which to use? E IP: Logged |

You cant have two primary graphics cards on the motherboard at the same time on a NORMAL computer. (To my knowladge) Now Ive read of some PCs that have some special hook ups where you can have two primary display cards on the same motherboard... You would have to get an add-on accellerator card.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Actually argon I'm pretty sure you can. I really wish this banshee was PCI in a way so I could keep it for glide and then put in the geforce for GL and D3D. Unfortunatly I will have to reinvest in 2 cards. Or just go with a voodoo 4 or 5. IP: Logged |

Win98 and later supports 2 video cards for multiple monitor support. How well it works depnds on the brands of cards you mix together. (Matrox works best)Of course only one card can be an AGP as there's only one AGP slot. Also, I think the 2nd card (PCI) has to go into the 2nd PCI slot as the first PCI slot and the AGP slot share an IRQ. It can be done, but how easy it is- I'm not sure. There are several people on one of the beta test groups I'm in that use multiple monitors under Win98 or WinME.
