This afternoon I started to build a train and it's coming along very well, but I need some ideas. Right now I built up an engine, some box wagons, a pair of flat wagons to put up some tanks or plane fuselages, then a flak wagon... I need to know about the defensive system of trains, did they have something like 4x20mm cannons? 50 cal MGs? Need help around this and then some good guy who wanna import it in OPS... uh, forgot bout skinning it, I can make the skins, but need someone for texture mappingli'l b ------------------

Simplest solution would be to 'borrow' some of the flak guns from a ship and paste them on in the OPS part of things. Trains would probably have guns mounted on flat-cars, so your best bet is to leave a couple of flat cars free of load. IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Gotta say, I'm excited about this one boys. I have wanted at least a little train yard for a while. I know we can't make a train that will go over hills and stuff very easily. But we could at least do one that goes over the flat part of the desert bettween a couple towns and airfeilds right? IP: Logged |

I don't think it will be a big problem, if we give him the same kinda model of the moving tanks, the real problem will be to create a skin to be applied on the terrain as a rail, I was thinking about something like a long strip attached to the bottom of the train that moves with the train, but I dunno if this is possible and how much realistic this would be... any suggestions?

I dont think trains used flak as much as the did other style guns. A railroad yard would have flak emplacements, but trains themselves would typically have guns that caused less recoil....------------------ Snickers =FC= IP: Logged |

I know it's not considered the most reliable source, but Clostermann reports attacking trains in Germany with Tempests of the 122 Wing and the trains were then equipped with several 4 X 22mm flak guns. Can't wait to try something like that !------------------ IP: Logged |

check out this site for railway info: http://www.worldrailfans.org/Germany/Index.shtml Here is a link to the Austerity war design used for Germany for most of the war. About 6000 of these were built between 1942 and 1945. http://www.worldrailfans.org/Germany/Images/Locomotives/Steam/DRG-DB/52-2547.jpg I started to model this in Multigen during the contest but never got very far. ------------------ Spin Visit Spin's Planepack Site to learn more about planepack V6.0 and ongoing development of the planepack IP: Logged |

When I'm not on a military bent I'm working on my model railroad in the basement, so this project has me drooling like you've got no idea. Since you're Italian l'il I'm sure its no problem, but proper 3d models are essential imo on this one. North American style buildings and farms are bad enough. What about the engine? Will there be smoke issuing from the stack? That would be awesome. Please post some pics when you have it skinned!! Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

I already thought about the smoke from the engine, it will give a good touch of realism, the idea of following the streets is good, but unfortunately they're not visible in the mission editor... the problem of that stupid mission editor comes out again, btw the idea Rendsburger had would solve a lot of problems, but how can we do it? Modify the maps tifs? Building up a good station won't be a problem, I have a lot of references about it, for a correct reference of the shape and stuff I will check out my model shop and ask for some infos, right now I built a very simple engine and wagons to keep the faces number low, we'll see what will come out... li'l bP.S. Any suggest is always welcomed of course!!!!

Liīl Bastard, yes you canīt see the streets in mission editor, but what you can do is following: open your sdemons.ini and add DisplayCoords=1 , save it and fly a mission in game with the terrain you want to set the train. Hit ALT-M and you can see the coordinates where you are. Hit S and you can move with the numkeys at any location on the terrain. 8=forward,5 stop, 2=back, 4 =left, 6=right. Hit the number often and you can move faster. You can turn with your Joystick! So, go to a street or town and write down the coords, follow the street, and erverytime it changed the direction, write the coordinates. Go to the Missioneditor and set the train to the Town coordinates, make waypoints at the curves, and the train will follow the street.Thats all! Maybe you can write the Coordinats to a readMe,so itīs for us easier to create mission ;-)Rendsburger IP: Logged |

Werner,It's always nice to know there are other train nuts out there. Soon as my oldest son moves out, his bedroom's becoming the train room. I'm trying to find time to go join the local N Scale club. When I need a fix I play Railroad Tycoon II (on Linux- I don't need the CD for the game, even though it's the Gold edition, and- it doesn't crash! ) I'd love to have a train to strafe too. For a yard, you'd only need one active track (the mainline) as there's not enough time to get much moving during an air attack. The rest of the yard would just have to be a texture mapped to a polygon like the airfield texture. THen you place LOTS of cars, LOTS of AA and see how many pieces you can scatter across the countryside (Before your plane looks like swiss cheese):O

Spanky here... I thought you would just use a huge dof like pete hawk used for his moving ships? I thought there was problems to just giving it waypoints? IP: Logged |

If you created the tracks as a channel and make that invisible, you could have the train as as an "aircraft" to follow it...much like the Sea Hurricane on the CAM ship. You'd have to place the track into the SM file for that terrain. Have it laid out over the flattest places of the terrain and viola! You've got a train that can be "flown" by Werner and Co. and the added benefit that the AI can use it.IP: Logged |

K guys! The model is almost done, tried to keep the faces number down, what I need is a 3d model of a tank, possibly the king tiger, even if Iwas thnking about making a StugIII, qnyway, to speed up the "blair train project" I need to know who can actively collaborate: Diego, u think u can work on the terrrain stuff and add your "canals"? Werner, if I'm not wrong u worked on the Sherman and Tiger .sm, so if I give u all the components of the train u an work it out? Then someone please shold send me a 3d model of an existing tank, but not in ac3d format, 3ds or obj would be better.li'l b Forgot to mention the textures! Workin on them, but I dunno if he way I'm doin it it's ok, I have almost finished them, but they can wait... ------------------

lil - don't bother. At this point I'm just the head cheerleader for tanks in sdoe, Archy's the guy with the technical know-how. If you sent me those files it would be like giving blueprints for a building to a monkey and saying get to it!Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Let me check, I think I have a 3DS model of a Panther on a disk somewhere. If I can find it would you want it? It would need some mods as it's pretty detailed.IP: Logged |

K,k... Werner, u really disappointed me! Jughead, if it's a complicated model wait a minute, cuz we still don't even have the train itself completely done! I was looking to something like the object tanks, without too much stuff on it. the tanks on trains were often useless because they were moved without fuel (that's what the guy at the model store said, he gave me a pair of good ideas, such as the Leopold cannon!!!). So if any of u is able to take out of the ground objects the german kingtiger, that would be great!------------------
