After days and days fighting to align all thbe ground stuff for some africa missions I reached th efollowing conclusion: the editor's made for planes, not for ground stuff. When u look at the map u just have icons, while a map of the town/airfield would be better, the same thing is for the ground objects icon, u can never make a right placing of the stuff, it's always approximative! Even the fact that ground objects can't be turned sucks!!!! any solutions around?------------------

Well, SDOE's mission editor is not as powerfull as CFS2, it's still pretty decent. To place objects in "exact" places get the coordinates of the place by using pressing "ALTM" in the mission. You can use this with a plane, or by slewing around. Then open up the mission with wordpad and edit the desired coordinates (including headings) for the object in question. I hope my instructions didn't confuse you more, it's early here, I'm not completely up. Goodluck! PR=FC= IP: Logged |

Word on that to both of you. Mission editor is powerful, but yeah it lacks some areas that would be very nice to have in it. From a long look from down yonder. I don't see how hard it would be to make a gui program using all the map .tif's to make a program and zoom in on it certain areas and just pop the co-ords up in a simple UI. The zooming part would be hard, well not really just take alot of time. Anyways I think it would be better if the mission editor opened up the whole map like it does in the game so that you can see exactly where you are place stuff and even add some kinda 3d pan view to it oooo that'd be sweet. You could rotate units and have the program updating the simple .mis text file easily. Hmmmmm sounds intriguing I think I need to get some books on directx programming =) LOL Just an idea though.------------------ So many things so little time FarmerJoe IP: Logged |

We could also upgrade it to incorporate the beta's sky colour editing capability so we can update a dovernight mission without having to open up the file and add back in the colour ref,s. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Spanky here... WTG- did you read my mission making tutorials on Combatsim.com? I "think" I talked about text editing to place objects exactly where you want them.

All that these guys are saying is true...it takes a little time and patience-- but you can pretty accurately place objects. I remember in one of the Dover missions I made, I wanted to place a Flak gun on the lighthouse near Ramsgate (Don't ask me how the Brits got it up there-- I just wanted a different place to have a gun)-- it took forever, but finally I got it to work and it was a terror on the German planes As fond as I am of this editor, I love the fact that you can zoom in on the CFS2 editor and see in real time where you are placing things...you want to put a tank next to the pile of crates near the hanger at the airfield on Midway-- just zoom right in and do it....hell-- I even placed plane objects in all the revetements...and you can add damage to ground objects too. I am making a Midway campaign and wanted to model the aftereffects of the Japanese raid on the island and airfield- so I placed a B-24 and had like 80% damage-- pretty cool In some aspects though, the CFS2 editor can be very confusing-- it took me a while and some e-mails to Warspite to get the hang of it...now if I could only get some time off to make some proper missions ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless!
