Topic: Another PP6 texture mapping problem

The mapping on the spinners of both the Spit V and IX which I spent quite a bit of effort fixing in PP5.3 has been undone in PP6. Probably something nobody else cares about, but it's something that screws up all my paint schemes for the Spit V and IX. Throw in the shading probs with the Fw190A-4's wing and it leaves me feeling more than a little depressed, and wondering why I bothered. To me if an aircraft doesn't look right it is just as useless as one that doesn't fly correctly. FM, DM and graphics are all equal and for me elements of PP6 are spoiled because of this.It may not be important to others but it is to me. I had hoped that at the very least the fixes incorporated into PP5.3 could have been rolled over to 6. I have put huge ammounts of work into SDOE (109's, 190's, A6M's, Ju87 and almost 100 paint schemes) but at the moment some of it is feeling like wasted effort. ------------------ Yardstick painted this [This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 11-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

Wasted effort? NO! But I am rather upset about this aswell. There SHOULD of ben more people to beta test this pack before it was released to the full public... but luckily for us it can be patched! I suggest we post a message saying what all needs to be fixed in PP6 (That can be fixed) so Spin can patch this baby up! IP: Logged |

This need to be fixed... Anyhow, the 5.3b version of the IX was not correct either, the spinner was sharing its texture with the antenna wire (looking VERY odd with a white spinner).IP: Logged |

Is that the Spit Vb ?I can't D/L PP6 just yet so I haven't seen this. Even so, as one who likes to paint the Spit, this sounds very bad indeed. Can someone post a pic of the problem ? I feel ya pain there Yardy lets hope it can be easily fixed Cheers,

I suspect what happened is that any FM mods made to the Vb and IXe in PP6, used older builds (probally PP5.2) as the base. However, if the FM hasn't changed in this pack, then we most likely have out of date PP5.2 flight models for these Spits. It's very easily fixed, I have the original PP5.3 spit.sm and spitix.sm files and any fm mods can easily be edited up to PP6 specifications. The FW190A-4 is trickier, it needs some one to play around with the texture shading, but it can be done. These aren't major issues and can easily be rectified with a patch, lets just do it. I would have done some testing myself but the download was too big on a modem. As it is it took me 3 days and 10 resumes using 'Getright'. Patchy: I can't say I noticed the antenna problem. The spinner texture for the SpitV and SpitIX in PP5.3 was mapped from the square in front of the fuselage (see my schemes for these aircraft on Werner's site). ------------------ Yardstick painted this [This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 11-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

Yardstick,The spit, and 190a4 mods were posted by Tailslide as a beta 5.4 flight model some months ago. It's unfortunate that in all that time that you weren't able to take a look. This didn't require a 30mb download. To my knowledge (and Tailslide will need to confirm this) all of the stated variants in your post contain modified flight models. Once you and Tailslide sort out the modifications you want please post them where I can download them (or send them to me directly) and I will incorporate them into the next revision. ------------------ Spin Visit Spin's Planepack Site to learn more about planepack V6.0 and ongoing development of the planepack IP: Logged |

OK Spin, I have fixed the spinner texture mapping and file references on the Spit V and IX. I will send it off to Tailslide just to ensure I haven't screwed up his FM mods. The Fw190A-4 is an altogether different proposition. This needs someone skilled at mapping and smoothing (unfortunately not me or I would have been done by now). Any volunteers? ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

While we're on this subject. I just got home from a weeklong business trip (actually Flight Safety recurrent training) and downloaded and installed PP6.0 yesterday. My single gripe so far is that I can't seem to get good old Woodpanel's (JT's) Spit cockpits to work now. I'm stuck with the homely original default cockpit for the spits. I simply copied the sounds , textures, and spitpit.sm files from the corresponding 'oldaircraftpp6' folder to the aircraft folder and have corrupt textures in the cockpit view. Anyone else getting this? I think JT had to fix this when 5.3 came out also ( I'm not sure about that tho).AQ IP: Logged |

ArthurQ, same thing here. Even transferring the intact Spit folders from "oldaircraft" didn't return the spit cockpits (but it did work for the P-38's). So I redownloaded and installed the spit cockpits. Let me know if you need the link.IP: Logged |

I've been releasing constant updates for the 190a4 and the spit v for over a year now.. this is the first I've heard of other changes to these planes, sorry. Don't forget the 3d model of the 190a4's wings were rotated to compensate for the wing sweep that was added in one of the beta FM's so this change will have to be re-applied or the fix will have to be done to the current rotated wings. Jerry, I went to JT's site that was in my favorites file but it still shows the spit cockpits from sept, 1999. Are these the ones u downloaded? If different I'd love to have the new URL. Thanks. AQIP: Logged |

I reapplied the spit cockpits from sept 99 to all the spits and all are working well even on the Seafire and Jedi's spits (just rename to the same name as the new planes cockpit sm file, but do backup the new one first), only prob is that I lose the opening cockpit so the file does need updating for this featureIP: Logged |

Thanks to Jerry and Commando this small problem is solved. I've got my spit cockpits back and I'm a happy camper. I found the downloaded zips of JT's cockpits from Sept 99 that I'd kept and just unzipped and reinstalled everything fresh. Don't know why copying them from the old aircraft folder didn't work but-- they work now-- so off to fly some more. Thanks Jerry and Commando. AQIP: Logged |

I for one really appreciate all of Yardstick's work! Except for casualty's corsair, all my other planes are painted by Y. Question though, a long time ago a "fix" was made to the 190a4, and a bunch of skins were messed by that. Since the FM went all twitchy a while ago on this plane I quit following it, so now I have no idea about 190 skins, which are compatible? Yardstick, do yours work? (k, the 190 is the other exception) I really dislike the default scheme, looks so bland. Werner *edit* Just to be more specific, I my 190 schemes from a very long time ago (off wpf I think) show up on the fuse, but the wings are the default scheme. ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! A while ago I redid all my Fw190A-4 schemes to work with both the A-4 and A-3 models. Most of these schemes were re-started from scratch and completely reworked. Now I think they are on a par with my Bf109, Fw190D-9 and A-8 schemes. I had intended to put a site together to host all my SDOE work but, having minimal HTML knowledge, the learning curve is very steep and I haven't made a lot of progress. Therefore I think I will pass these schemes onto another site to host if there is the demand. As an aside it would be nice if we could update the Fw190A-3 to the A-4 FM. I personally tried (using Hippie's tools to cut and paste the asc file from the A-4 sm to the A-3 sm) but because the models are different this will not work satisfactorily. ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |
