btw, I have very very little info on this, so if anyone has details on length, span, engine, guns etc, all the usual stuff, can you post it for me, right now I've worked on best guess to build it, when I get details I'll scale it correctly.

That depends..are you doing the single seater or the 2-seater

Il-2 Single Seater:

Length: 38 feet, 2.78 "
Span: 47 feet, 10.8 "
Powerplant: One AM-38 liquid-cooled V-12 1600 hp
Performance: 260 mph at 8200 ceiling (w/o skiis)
20,000 ft ceiling.

Armament: 2- 23mm VYa cannons
2- 7.62 mm ShKAS machine guns
Ordnance: 2- 250 kg FAB bombs (external)
8- RS-82 rockets

**Notice-- in the winter, skiis were used at times instead of tires- although performance was not noticeably different**

Tail would probably have the best information though-- he is the master I would also love to see the 2-seater as well-- with the rear gunner. Armament was similar except the rear gunner had a Berezin UBT 12.7mm machine gun. It also commonly carried RS-132 rockets, primitive cluster bombs, or a DAG-10 grenade launcher- which ejected grenades on small parachutes. There were also small bomb bays in the wings. This thing was called the "flying tank" with good reason-- it was ALL armor!!!

Looks like Jeeves has a new 2nd best friend.

Doesn't it also have the 12.7 mm machine gun from the cockpit?

Looks good already Nat! Il-2, before IL-2! Wouldn't that be cool.

yep, it's an IL2, I started it ages ago, before the A10 actually, it was a side proget to the Saichi M6A1 light bomber I have that goes with the Sen Toku sub (the Sen Toku carried 3 of them in it's hanger and launched them via the ramp on the front)

This version is 2 seater, but I doubt it would be too hard to build the single seater along side it. It's not mapped properly, but I would actually much prefere someone that is very good at skins to map it and skin it, if there are no takers I'll do it myself, but there are people out there much better at it than I am and I'd like a Sturmovic to rival the one from the forth comming game so they can't brag at us about how good theirs is The IL2 is a pretty simple job, and should be flying in a few days, then all the tweaking starts (oh joy)

Jeeves, thanks for the info, thats well enough to get it up to a good flying standard to start with

Any TMappers/Skinners wanna jump in give me a holler anytime.

Man...this thing is a pig:

"When used during the battle of Kursk, the Circle of Death (a line astern tactic) resulted in the destruction of huge numbers of enemy tanks. The 9th Panzer Division lost 70 in 20 minutes, while just two hours saw the elimination of the 3rd Panzer, with the loss of 270 tanks."

--The Gatefold Book of WWII Warplanes-- B&N

Stalin seemed to like it too:

"The Red Army need the Il-2 as it needs bread and water: I demand more! This is my final warning!" Yikes!!

As mentionned above, it had a backbone of 7 mm armor-plate to which everything else was attached!

the cool thing for me is... now I have the basic shape, I'm rebuilding all the parts using my old model as a template, and it looks even better than in that pic

I guess from what you're saying Jeeves, I should add armour plating to this, thats easy enough to do, if I ad armour plates with fairly high obhits and the body part it's protecting with usual hits then that could be a good compromise, it will mean that even if it looses a piece of armour it doesn't mean it will be easier to shoot down, you'd have to hit the area thats now unprotected or blow off more armour before you get to the soft bits

That's the idea Nat The way I picture it from reading about it, she should feel at least as heavy as the Jug feels when you are flying it, if not more Nice pic, by the way!

By looking at Dauntless' post, I realized how arrogant we Americans can be with our measurements...I copied the specs out of the book without even realizing it wasn't in metric...don't know what system you guys use for modeling...but either way- I look forward to the result. Cheers!

WOW!! Shes really looking sweet Nat.

Don't burn yourself out trying to finish her. Do it as long as you enjoy it. I am a huge fan of your work todate.

What Jeeves said. She's a "pig"! heavy as heck, and armor everywhere. Think of her as a anti-Zero. hehehehee She should take a beating, especially (I think) under the fuselage, as she was a ground pounder. At least thats what I have read, but listen to jeeves, he has much more info than I do, I just have enthusiasim!
