OK... I don't know if anyone has realized this or not- but this is my favorite WWII plane. There...I've said it. Now-- I just found a virtual gold mine in a book called The Dauntless Dive Bomber of WWII by Barrett Tillman...and although the specs may be nothing new-- this book goes into its complete history, including it's role as an Army dive bomber.

Now-- I have flown the CFS2 SBD and it is fun to fly, but I know you guys can do such a better job with it here in SDOE. I knoe jedi was working on it and the Hellcat, and that pleases me to no end and the Pacific planes hold a great place in my heart...I am troubled however as I have not heard from jedi in a while and don't know it's status.

So what I am hoping is someone will have pity on me and carry on with the project. I have sounds for it thanks to Spoonman, and I have my best campaign I have ever done that is still yet to be released. It will not be available until the Dauntless is done (plus I will have to tweak the missions anyways once the final FM is done! Jag and Tail and many other OPPers have done a great job getting her started, and jedi has worked magic with her as well. What we need is someone to do for the US Navy planes what mposis has done for the IJN planes. jedi did a superior job on the Corsair and I would like nothing more than to see him finish her, but I know he has MANY projects going on at once and may not complete her for a while.

Besides-- aren't you guys sick of my signature below yet?!!! Thanks again to a community that has brought me more joy than any other I have belonged to...well not including my wife and familly that is

Reports of the death of the Dauntless have been greatly exaggerated

Clipped-wing Spitfire is a couple of hours from being done, new damage model for the Corsair is a couple of days from being done, Dauntless is next up.

Although I think there may be some other developments before I start working it again...

That's what I like to hear jedi...and I don't know if the information was passed on to you from way back--- back I have some original training and campaign missions I have spent hours on just waiting for a final copy of her to test on...so if you feel the need to have someone beta-test her, I already have some good missions if I can continue where I left off...it would be much appreciated as this one has a special place in my heart...hell- I am even thinking of getting a tatoo of a Dauntless

ooohhhhh, I'll back you up on that one Jeeves......and I'll also back you up on the DARN AVENGER TOO!

I just wish I had time to work on her again.... But I barely have time to even check this message board, let alone start an OP project

Don't worry Jeeves, it looks like the SBD is not forgotten

The Avenger is still a going concern too! Trouble is, they had one flying when I visited Duxford as well as one on static display. Now, I thought I had the model right, but there were so many details that I had missed, I had to go back and largely re-do the mesh. Also, since I was building it on a Dauntless base, I may just wait a little and see what these guys are up to....There are definite sounds of top secret innovation coming from these posts!!!!

Well, I am excited about the prospect of finally getting the Dauntless and the Avenger in the game. I say finally from a "wouldn't it be cool if we had more Pacific planes" perspective that I had way back before CFS2.

To all you plane builders....when you are getting close to release your new plane, you might consider the mission package you put with them. Be it the training missions, or just a sample "real" mission. And when you consider this, ask yourself who would be the best person to create a mission for your plane. The plane you have devoted so much time, sweat, and tears into.
The answer (unless your head is buried in the sand) will most likely be Jeeves. He takes more time, and energy to get missions "right" than anyone I have ever seen. And I consider myself a decent mission creator, decent, but no Jeeves.

To me, a great plane, deserves a great mission package! And Jeeves is just the guy to do it. Oh sure you can get a Jeeves mission and cut and paste it and call it your own, but a true Jeeves has a little seal on it to identify it. Or did we kill all those seals Jeeves?

Jeeves. How interesting.I just asked my wife for a christmas gift of none else but a Dauntless Douglas model.Accurate minatures makes a highly detailed 1:48 scale. There hard to find.I can't build a flyable one but I can sure as heck build one to add to my collection.its one of my favorites as well.If some on the SDOE team builds one,it would be nice if they include a workable rear gun turrent.--Mud--

MudEye--

The present Dauntless does have a working rear turret-- and the AI is pretty good with it too if you have ever followed in a Zero Go to the Hangar to get it...

As for the Dauntless models-- Accurate Miniatures makes three-- the SBD-1 in Marine Corps colors, the SBD-3 circa Coral Sea, and the SBD-5 which I have also built. I got mine from this place:
http://www.modelexpoinc.com/dir/323.html

It looks to be on sale

And PR-- thanks for the kind words...but you are making me blush

This one was a Pacific version .about a 130 parts. The Torpedo was the internal one (the first)which to me was fascinating. The most effective fighter bomber in the pacific.Awesome advantage for the US Navy.Since the the Dauntless Douglas did more damage then any other plane in the Pacific war.We should be proud.I know I am.
