Since, as i donīt like the squadron descriptions in SDOE, i want to change it to a historical description.
I have information about many but not all squadrons, wich were used in SDOE.
So what iīm looking for is information about the 652,633,666 RAF Squadron and the ScreaminīDemons,Howlin Banshees,Gentlemen from Hell and the Carpetbaggers.

I search for information about: when was it formed, wich aircraft were used, which Base/Country/ moved datas...

The "Gentlemen From Hell" was the 487th BG(H) at Lavenham AAFB England. This was never an official or widely used name and came into vogue more after the war than during, much like the term "The Mighty Eighth" which was coined after the war.

There is a 487th link but my home DSL is down and I am posting this from work, so I can't give it to you right now. Very briefly, the 487th started with B-24's but soon transitioned to B-17's. Their claim to fame is that the author of 12 O'Clock High, Bernie Lay, was once their CO; and that the largest 8th AF raid of the war on Dec 24, 1944 was lead by the 487th. The group lasted only a little over a year. The base opened I believe in the Spring of 44, they transitioned to B-17's in August and disbanded the following August (dates approximate).

I'm not really a walking encyclopedia. It's just that I visted the base on one of my trips to England. Up until the late 80's it was the most preserved 8th AF base in England, and is still among the most preserved. So I have a personal attachment and have read a lot about it.

Hope this helps.
