If you did see the post imade about small side projects, this falls under them. I'm currently working on updating the Zeros to help them out a bit and then release the new updated zeros with the Ki-61 when it's ready.Heres what i need to know. I'm getting lots of help with this and thanks to condor they are getting some of the great engine he did on the P-51. Now, the engine damage is nice and on the A6M2 and A6M5 already. Here is the problem, the wings and tail get shot off before the engine damage takes effect. I don't remember in any books i've read that the zeros was that easy to shoot down. Should we up the obHit to help make the engine damage better? IP: Logged |

Actually, the earlier Zeros fell quite fast IF you got on their tail and were a good shot... but thats a BIG if. Earlier Zeros had no armour, no self-sealing fuel tanks and they were relatively lightly built aircraft. But I do have to agree that the engine or fuel should blow up or leak before the wings or tail get shot up. You might want to up the obHits just very little on the wings and tail and decrease the engine obHits (ObProb? aswell...)[This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 11-05-2000).] IP: Logged |

condor is working on it, i could send you the email i got. I'm working to see about adding the fual tanks to the model, that might help it not feel like the plane weighs 4lbs.IP: Logged |

Actually, with the .50's and .20mm's the early zero's wouldn't last long at all. and you could rip up the plane with no damage to the engine. fuel is another story... being in the wings and the fuse it would take damage quickly.------------------ Mirthain=FC= IP: Logged |

This is from a book I've been reading called Allied Fighter Aces of World War II by Mike Spick. "It was known in the West that Japanese aero engines were nothing special; what they did not allow for was that Japanese airframes were devoid of anything that added unnecessarily to weight. They were stressed for normal fighter manoevers, but lacked such refinements as armour, self-sealing tanks, and even radios. The result was what virtually amounted to aerobatic sports planes with relatively high-powered engines and wing loadings far below those of Western fighters. The turning ability of Japanese fighters in the early days of the Pacicfic War, notably the Mitsubishi Zero, became legendary." This stuff you probably already knew, but I thought it was interesting. Well, the Zeke WAS a bit of a deathtrap if hit. Even its pilots (including Sakae) admitted this. But its "weakness" is a bit artificial right now, attributable to just low obHit values for the main parts.I'd say add the wing fuel tanks, (and the belly tank if that's not a "real" fuel tank) and beef up the wings and fuselage to just less than the Spit V or 109E obHit strength. Then adjust the damage model so that the fuel tanks are the "weak link" with fire, etc. Then, as long as the engine model is pretty good, you can ratchet up the obhits on the fuselage and wings so that they last long enough for the engine/fuel to take the "real" damage. Also, I'd totally re-do the gunsight/pilot viewpoint on that plane. It's really a disservice to it to be unable to shoot planes in a turnfight because they're invisible under the nose. This was practically the ultimate dogfighter, but it's just too hard to aim in a fight. ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |
