I have a 3d program which can import the following format:
3dstudio
3dstudio 4
truespace
wavefront
proengineer
VRML 2.0
autocad R13

can anybody send me a program to convert the .sm files in one of these formats?

If the wavefront files are in *.OBJ format, then Openplane Studio will import them no problem.

Max users export .OBJ files to do this. Also possible to export VRML97 from Max to OPS too.

Apart from that, you are pretty much stuck.

If you can manage the .OBJ format, make sure your program can handle textures in a TIF format. Not always possible. Nendo does horrid things to it's textures for example!

By the way, what program is it you have?

Well, you wont find a program that imports SM files since it's the Openplane file and not a model file. You need to get to the stuff in the SM file. which can be done with hippes extractors but it exports the stuff to LOD with i'm sure only AC3D supports right now with hippies plugins. you don't want to import the SM file cause it would import the whole plane (all LODs) and would screw something up.
