Hey guys, well after a long break I'm working my way back into OPS again, I wanted to appologies to those of you that have mailed me over the last couple of weeks with no reply, as most of you know I haven't been to well recently, nothing really bad but I've not been great and my sleeping have been totaly screwed up, that and generaly feeling like my life sucks the big one at the moment, cause of this I've barely been online and had absolutely no enthusiasm for OPS or SDOE or anything else for the last few weeks.

I'm slowly getting back into things again now and have started early but very very promising work on terrains again (completely from scratch in Max) so hopefully in the next couple of months with the great help of Diego and WTG we can start pumping out terrains fairly quickly, initially inland terrain with the work I've done, but hopefully later also with water (yep that old problem of tile material properties that I think I've mostly cracked now).

As I'm still not feeling up to my usual none stop 16 hours a days OPS work things will initially move slowly since I'm not motivated enough right now to push myself like that again learning, struggling and bungeling my way through things I need to know, but hey, as I get back into it hopefully the speed will pick up again.

So, I'm really sorry if anyone feels in anyway let down by not getting and replys from mails they have sent me, I know you'll all understand but I do feel bad about that, especially you Snickers, and really sorry for any work I said I'd do and just haven't even looked at yet, plus all the stuff I've got on the shelf that still needs finishing off. There's some great work being done I see from the boards and I'll damn well make sure I'm a part of it again.. LOL

Thanks guys for bearing with me.

~Nat~

Thirty lashes with a serving of spotted dick! Good to see you back. No offense taken or perceived, I get busy ( and also need a break from SDOE) now and again also so I know the feeling.

thanks Snick

Just so you guys can see what I'm upto now, I just did this quick terrain, it's from my old map so you can ignore the detail, it was used purely for shape and to create the terrain from, it still needs chopping up and the parts then centralising on the X,Y axis but you can get an idea, building terrain could turn out to be much easier than we thought with Max.

If anyone knows of a command in Max 3.1 that cetralises an object on the X,Y axis (not Z, darent alter the depth of the parts) then please let me know asap. Thanks guys

(hope this pic aint too big)

Nat, HIYA! I was JUST about to post a "Has anyone seen Nat lately?" post but I refreshed and saw your post. By all means take it easy dude. Remember... this sim is for your enjoyment, not your slave master.

Hi Nat,
either use placed dummy objects and then align your objects to the dummy object or use a 2nd grid, which you make active.

Hey Nat, good to see you're back at it again. Just a quick question for you - is that pic you posted above of the Singapore terrain? More generally now, do you anticipate that the terrains you expect to be 'pumping out' with greater frequency to be historically accurate ones? If so drop me a line if you plan on doing Normandy (especially between Juno and Omaha beaches) because I have pictures, personal anecdotes & experiences as well as a couple maps (if I can find them) that may be of use for that area.

Werner

P.S. Have you seen the dockyard at AF yet? It's practically "The Nat Show". lol

Hey all, yeah I'm glad to be back at it, taking it slow but it's been wierd not talking with you guys for a while.

That is "a" singapore terrain, I found a tutorial on creating terrains and used the singapore texture (basic one) to try it out, so that pic is of a 40x40 mile terrain tile mapped with a 512x512 texture, the elevations are to high, but like that it shows detail a little better for the pic. What I have to do now is break it up into the individual tiles, optimise the water tiles, and centre all of them on the home grid at 0,0, then I can export them and build a terrain, but once I get this method of to a tea it will mena that all you need to build a terrain is a correctly scaled map of the area you want to build. I'm hoping there is a way to cut up the large single tile into 20x20 smaller tiles without having to do it all by hand, but I will if I have to.

Lemsko, thanks for the tip, there's a good chance I can align to the main tile using that method, I'll try it out

BTW, yes I did see the Dockyard I forgot I built so maney ships, but looking at the Yamato and Akizuki, I think I should re-work them a little now that I know alot more about Max... 2 more jobs on my "to do" list

After Singapore is done, I'll cast my ballot for Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong (including China mainland to the north...) for the 3rd terrain for the Pacific theatre....
