I have CFSII and love it, but, SDOE still holds the most interest for me.

The flying model (FM) of SDOE is still the best. The planes feel like they are in air. The FM for CFSII is still that same old Flight Simulator wackyness. The planes fly ok but feel like they are in mud rather than air. Also, try a stalling manuever in CSFII and watch your plane do some very odd tumbling thing (been that way from the first MSFS)

SDOE is the best and holds it's own once again.

Same here. I've got CFS2 and tried it out. But "Fighter Squadron" still ranks No.1 in my computer. I don't fly under the callsign "JG300s_Blitzer" anymore since other members of my gruppe lost interest in this sim. But I for one will always be a dedicated FSDOE pilot. My new callsign is "TAINT". I haven't been online the past few days due to the medication I'm taking makes me ill. But will be back soon. Forever FSDOE'er, JP

Improvements found in CFS2 are only skin deep. The virtual cockpit is much better though, but slow (no mouse-panning.) Hitting the drink brings up that old arcade game crash thing, like the half-time show in Pac-man.

The beat-up look is well done, but I still don't care one bit for the puppet-show 2d cockpit - also the canopies just don't look that nice. The clouds are better, but act strange when you fly through them.

Also I have notices the odd DM, if you take dmage it seems to almost always just slooow dooown your rollll rate heheh. The departure is very crazy like in Fly!, and turning up the FM realism just seems to introduce an exaggerated accellerated stall.

The ground handling is better, but not close to SDOE.

I like the bail out guy and the abiity to open the shoot

I can not get multi-play to work yet, do you use "the Zone?"

The engine sounds are neat, SDOE really needs to update the engine stuff a bit, it is not like MS did any magic here, just simple stuff. I wish we had a proper engine pitch sound in SDOE instead of it being tied to the throttle.

The smoke when you hit the enemy looks cool. The terrain is not that great, the smooth hills are nice but the color is odd, I like color more like FUIII - SDOE has the same too-green thing goin' on IMO.

Some of the airfields look real cool. The carriers seemed lonely

I don´t think so, Blasius.
We will have a new Planepack next month, there are a lot of work being doing now (planes, objects, terrains) and all the old stuff are very good.
CFS2 will be good, sure, but not as SDOE. But I´m happy with CFS2 because we can learn new good things to try in SDOE too!

I feel that as flight sim fans it is hard to ignore any new quality sim release. Having just found SDOE one month ago, it clear to me that this sim will be around for a long time.
I visit this board everyday just to watch the progress of the ongoing develpment of this game. Which is the the key. It seems that the game has few limits as to how much bigger and
better it can be. +

Many hope to unseat the King, but so far no one has! hehehe O.k., well maybe SDOE is only the King in our eyes, and I imagine similar threads have been started on the EAW forum saying the same thing. While CFSII has some very nice things (mostly eye candy) SDOE still blows it away in many aspects.

Don't believe me? O.k. what about these....

1) Multiplay (SV your not missing a thing not getting CFSII to work on the Zone...UGH!)

2) Damage effects shown after impact. In CFSII once your dead..bye bye, you get a big burning hole and a slow fade to the setup screen. Thats no fun! I like seeing the carnage after my wreck!

3) More planes to fly! Yeah, yeah, they will soon import alot more planes into the game, and maybe Snoopy's doghouse too, but for this moment in time..we gottum!

4) The ability to jump to any plane and fly it.

5) Firing from gun positions in the bombers and fighter bombers.

6) Nations Soundpack!

7) Dirk!

8) SDOE WAR and it's children.

And then all the things you guys already mentioned, and I'm sure many more. Lost interest in SDOE....please!

SV... try ditching very slow. I landed in water one time and my plane slowly sank. It was way cool.
I think the problem is that CFS2 planes have a very low threshold for how much crash damage they can take... whereas SDOE planes are made of flubber. It's almost as though the CFS2 planes are made of cardboard and filled with nitro.

No lost interest here...I have been flying CFS2 a bit, and enjoy it immensely, but I won't even try it online. Mostly it is work keeping me busy right now; the plant where I work went on strike, and us non union folks are being made to pull 6 day extra hour shifts. So, I am falling behind on all the updates, and will have a lot of catching up to do when ( and IF ) this action ever ends.

I went to the store the other day to purchase Covert ops and was looking at cfs2 and they had it on sale for $35.00. So I purchased both of them. I'm not a pro at FM so I'm a bad person to say "This doesn't feel right" but to me cfs2 feels just like EAW. Is this a good thing? Well I don't think it is bad but not great either. The eye candy is much better than EAW but with sdoe some of it is better and some of it is not. I think the planes in sdoe is better, the cockpit is also better in sdoe. The funny thing with cfs2 and eaw is that you don't feel like your inside the plane like you do with sdoe. Which is better? It is too early to tell but at this point I'd say sdoe is better, just wished those maps(postage stamp) in sdoe were not so small. One more thing, they didn't put in the Frank!!!

Here's something from a Russian who had hands-on experience with IL-2. Sounds good to me

quote:
Well, there’s my test report. But before I want to thank Oleg for his communicative and open mind. Actually our meeting was like a very interesting simmers-discussion. Some of my friends almost overwhelm him w/questions.
Our visit was a bit spontaneous and unprepared, and this Saturday was Oleg’s sun birthday(don’t worry guys we’ve congratulated him w/it) so have not much time for flying.
Oleg show us demo version which he shows in London.
First we’ve seen a bunch of tracks w/Oleg’s commentaries. Then we’ve got some test flys.
I’ve flown 109F2, P39Q and IL-2I(fighter variant).
First flight, me on 109F2, oppenent is novice-AI-pilot on LA-5FN, altitude 1000m.
1st impression is the planes is damn maneuverable and very responsible w/controls. I was not ready for this, my plane was flying like a mad fly ;-) I’ve lost my opponent very quickly. W/turned icons off it is very hard to recognize plane over the ground. So, I’ve decided to made a small aerobatic show, I dive w/full throttle, and hardly pull up stick almost at the ground, “messer” grudgingly obey, Okey, now strong climb to loose all speed, I’ve tried to make hammerhead but missed, I’ve turned outside view and watched what the plane will gonna do, “messer” pull his nose down, then waggled w/it, stabled and started earn speed in a dive, satisfacted I’ve jump to the cockpit because I saw my opponent close to me. When I get close to him, this lammo-AI-pilot started make so beautiful wide scissors, I’ve can’t catch him to my gunsight(btw gunsights are very good!), I’ve really missed my joystick and after some passes I’ve crashed to the sea w/great waterworks.
I’ve aksed to give me a chance shot bomber first, He111 is OK, P39Q as interseptor great! Lets go. P39’s cockpit isn’t finished yet and it gives me a trouble to aiming, I’ve missed w/my 1st pass zoomed a bit and went to the next attack, my long burst hit He111 to the right wing and to fuselage, 111 started smoking fuel or oil but still not burning, I get too close to bomber and bottom gunner mage a dozen holes in my plane, break turn, and next attack, again long burst and w/o ammo I’ve ramed a bomber.
Then my frends tried to shot something but w/o success too ;-)
We’ve make arrangements w/Oleg to visit his company soon, we’ll come w/our joysticks, ang Oleg will show us new version, and we’ll try to make a dogfight 2 or 3vs3 or more.
The game is fantastic!
IMO the fights in sky is more realistic than in any other sims. Dogfights promised to be a very strained and dynamic. As I notice you can escape battle quickly(if you want), and shot enemy is hard if he saw your attack. About guns effective, sorry, I’ve missed in 99% ;-), those hits I made He111 wasn’t enough to down him, gunners looks good too, He111 have a bling area behind and guners firing on me when I’ve been very close below or higher(He111 crew was novice AI level)
Don’t worry about 109s abilities, it is a very dangerous opponent, I think 109 is under modeled in many simulators, Oleg spent a lot of time to collect all information about it to model “messer” correctly.
As independent tester, right now I can’t give you detailed report about differences between 109F2 and P39 I flown. But hope I can do it soon
The graphics is the best I’ve seen before, once we’ve turn off all effects, but game was still looking good. AI pilots fight vs each other very smart and like a humans, they are missing sometimes and making mistakes.
Mission builder is very good too, very easy in use and powerful.
I think it’ll took at least 1 year to explore all features, planes, missions e t.c., w/addons you’ll spend much more I hope ; )

I’m broil with impatience to visit Oleg’s office again to give you a report about good fight w/my frends. Please keep in touch, be patient, the GAME is coming out SOON.

I haven't lost interest at all. But like most, real life keeps me away from online too many times. If anything, as I've got so many sims and having spent time trying to learn them, I keep coming back to SDOE because it has that feel of "being there" that others sometimes lack. I still love this sim even after about a year and a half of playing it.
I'll be getting CFS2 sometime soon, but I don't expect it to replace SDOE for me.

One other thing--no other online community is as fun and good hearted as the SDOE one.
Both in the forum and definitely in online games and in the lobbies. Try getting into some of the other online games either at Janes or on the Zone and see how well you are treated if no one recognizes you there.
Everyone here is soo friendly and even if they shoot your hairy arse off in flight its still fun all the way without the testosterone mist that permeates the airways in a lot of these other online sims.
Some of the other sims have posted in the Combatsim forum how they want more people to fly online and then they turn around and walk all over the newbies, especially if you aren't part of a squad. Oh well, just my experience so far anyway. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for testosterone-- but come on some of you macho fighter pilots out there-sheez- be helpful to the newbies and quite all that struttin with your chests stickin way out there.

Oh well, I'm preaching to the choir here tho.

Much to the chagrin of Eyes for one (sorry buddy, I don't know when I can get to your files but I'll let ya know!), real life has hit me like a fully loaded freight train in the last two weeks. I'm really having to struggle to keep up with university and work, let alone sdoe. My job list, however (sdoe-wise at least), includes coordinating Nv3 more closely, doing huge updates to Abbeville Field, and maybe even the T34 once Pete's done with the mesh. Lost interest? Never. Although imo the release of IL2 is going to be the strongest test of sdoe's solidarity to date.

sdoe forever!

Without giving away anything my new job (for the last 6 1/2 months) has really improved my modeling skills and that old T-34 could be redone into a kick ass model now, IF I had more freetime. I've got a massively full plate of work currently (and yes, I'm really enjoying it all) so everything else is on hold until I can take a breather. I haven't forgotten though Werner. I'll try to get it done for you very soon.

Da Jug Head - As statistical analysis goes, this isn't a significant sample space. and on top of that, its not like we've seen an explosion of new sites. In fact I think I can count any new ones we've seen since summer on one hand.

Pete - Don't rush man, if you've got stuff to do, do it first. I won't be able to touch the T34 until Christmas break anyhow.

Spanky here...

Yep forum activity has been dwindling latly.

My personal reasons.

WORK WORK WORK.

Even though I don't work alot of overtime I don't have much engery when I get home and i work some saturdays, And I can't stay up late enough to play online Cause If i do my work suffers and we all know what that would lead too.

Really why does everyone insist on playing at like midnight to 2 am EST?

Why doesn't anyone fire up SDOE after supper? Tell your wife to bite ya if she doesn't like it. Man some of you guys are whipped.

I have tried over and over to do stuff like model planes and stuff and even after I get better and better with my modeling skills I still have troubles getting my plane from MAX to SDOE.

OPS is always being stupid, the plugins for max are always being stupid.

I just can't be bothered to find out all these work arounds that everyone seems to forget to tell anyone about till they ask.

I want to model my plane, and put that in OPS.

The only tools I want to touch are MAX, OPS and Paint shop pro, THATS IT. No dos stuff, no work arounds.

Everytime I learn how to move forward a step in the process I find out that I can't move forward again till I learn a NEW workaround that I never heard of.

Stuff that would get me more intersted in SDOE?

More games online, at a better time.

OR

A more streamlined and solid process for making planes and objects.

I would rather both but one or the other would make me happy right now, I want to play or build but I just can't do either right now.

And of course the fabled patch But I can actually live without that for now.
