Make it two at opposite corners of the map and that would make for a great air combat arena (fps wise).------------------ 9./JG3_Jetlag IP: Logged |

Hey Nat... couldn't you work up some of your ground unit magic and make a nice dirt field... some boxes, couple of tents, perhaps a german one and a plain one... the german one uses the parked Stuka? ;} I don't know how well it would work, but worth a try.. .perhaps take only one tile, change it to green, like a feild, then we could place units on that? A dirt field is easy. You just re-paint the tiles in the airfield super texture, and there you have it. One thing to watch out for though! The way the edges blend with the terrain is a bodge. The terrain has 'featureless' areas where the airfields sit, otherwise you get some horrible edge effects! See Diego's re-paint of Africa screenshots, and you'll see what I mean. Lovely paintwork, but you can see the join! Airfield wise, yup, as soon as I get a few minutes, I can stick a few airfields into the Tundra terrain. Luckily, the problems I mentioned above just don't happen when practically everything is White!!!!!! I am doing a similar thing with Nat's Midway terrain to create a 90% water terrain with just a few islands. A couple will have airfields on them, whilst others may have some additional targets to go for! With all the Pacific planes being worked on, many with a Navy theme, I think this one is a must. Especially when 2 of the Airfields will be Aircraft Carriers! And the AI will use them too!!!!! IP: Logged |

You can easily blend an entire new replacement airfield into the surounding terrain, like I did with the WWI aerodrome. It is only a problem to create brand new airfields, or trying to create a new airfield in a new custom terrain.Basicaly, you just blend the new airfield into the old one, that way the outside areas of the old terrain still blend into the terrain.

Excuse me butting in.How about an alpha(?seethru)texture with just the runways with the buildings painted on top of this as a base. This would enable the airfield to be placed anywhere on any terrain without having to worry about blending in as all that would be visable would be the runway/buildings anyway.IP: Logged |

It's a thought Graymon, but ......I dread to think what an Alpha texture the size of an airfield would do to the framerates! Fear not, though!between Diego, SV and myself, I think we have just about sorted airfields now.... Blasius, check out SV's re-paint tutorial on airfields. It is clear and easy to follow, and it will tell you exactly what tools you need to do a re-paint. There is also a general terrain re-paint tutorial on Nat's site. On the downside, just painting an airfield on the terrain isn't the real deal here. Airfields are seperate defined objects, and lots more needs to be done to make them work! IP: Logged |

Well a texture needs to be mapped to a mesh, so you either have a normal terrain texture or an alpha texture. If you tried to apply the alpha texture to a new mesh on top of the terain, that new mesh would need to match the exact shape of underlaying terrain. This defeats the purpose.

Rendsburger IP: Logged | |
