Thanks to initial work by ArgonV, I've just completed a prototype arrestor system for Jedi's outstanding F4u-1 Corsair. On Nat's excellent Ark Royal, a fully loaded F4u will stop in less than half the length of the deck with 20 knots of breeze. In fact the F4u is easier to stop than the Seafire (despite being 2 tons heavier) because it's approach speed is 10-20 mph slower. (like the original, the Seafire's a really 'slippery sucker')

There's still some work to do (catapult system, etc) but I'm hopeful an updated F4u series will be released in the not too distant future.

Thats just how it's supposed to be!

The seafire was never really a carrier plane, just a conversion of a land plane. That narrow undercarriage must have been fun on a pitching deck!

Which reminds me.....

Has anyone tried putting a set of DOF's on a carrier that make it bob around a little?

That would spice up the carrier landings a little. Especially if you could add an obProb to vary the movement up, down, side to side.....

Pitching or rolling...

oohhh,I feel seasick...

Oh, and another thing......

Can the AI make use of both landing and taking off additions being worked on here?

I've pulled apart the Seafire to see how it was done, and can't see any reason why not. Just haven't had the time to test it out yet.

I have been working on using the existing carrier models and plugging them into a flat sea tile to make an airfield....carefully re-set the start points to line the planes up, and you have AI carriers. Never got it to work before, since they couldn't take off or land unless you increased the deck length. This could be the answer!

Oh, And I'm in the process of making a new island for Midway. And the other island too. This time, I'll give it a proper texture! Effort 1 used only 1 255 x 255 texture...

In my WWII aircraft book - it stated that they lost more Seafire aircraft to carrier landing accidents than to enemy action! As you said, this goes back to the narrow landing gear and a rolling pitching landing area.
