I've only just got back in2 SDOE after several long months away from this great sim.Whilst the 109's were available be4 my forced hiatus from SDOE, I hadn't flown them too much, although I have 2 admit 2 being a 109 nut.Anyway, be4 I say anything further, I have 2 convey my gratitude 2 every, single person who has contributed 2 making all these great planes that never originally shipped with SDOE, as well as those who helped tweak & improve the existing planeset. To say that u guys r the true heart of SDOE would not be an exagerration, and frankly SDOE would've sadly passed in2 obscurity without your efforts.
OK, after getting that out of the way, I have one small comment 2 make about the 109 FM's.After having just flown the G-6 & K-4 , I can confidently say that the roll-rates r far too generous(and I can only imagine the Friedrich & Emil 2 be similar in this regard, though I will test those later myself).Whilst the rest of the FM in general felt quite "right", the roll-rate was all wrong from the published figures I've seen of the 109.In fact, the G-6 & K-4 presently have a roll-rate similar 2 that of real Fw 190's.With some rudder input 2 quicken the roll, I was able 2 get a roll-rate of 2.5 sec's on the K-4 @ approx 300 TAS/3k !!! In fact, roll-rate seemed 2 actually increase with speeds over 230 TAS, which is the exact opposite of how a 109 handled in real life.At 300 IAS, roll-rate became very stiff & laboured on the K-4, and at 400 IAS, roll-rate slowed 2 a glacial >18 secs. In comparison, the SDOE 109 seems 2 posess hydraulically assisted ailerons.
Since the rest of the FM feels nice, and so many hundreds of hours have been spent on producing the FM's and 3D models as well as the textures (not 2 mention testing), it seems a great shame 2 leave the roll-rate anomaly as it is , if it can possibly be fixed.
I am an OpenPlane neophyte, and no bugger-all, but I would like 2 help in any way I can.I will meticulously test any modified FM's til the cows come home, and if the "FM wizards" (u know who u r, Zur, TS et al) r too busy with real life (lets face it, SDOE comes low on the totem pole when real life pressures & dramas impinge) r too busy, I'd be willing 2 try & change the necessary FM values myself if I was given some instructions pointing me in the right direction.
I love the 109, & with all the hard work done by others 2 get it in2 SDOE, I just want 2 see it fly as best as it can.The current roll-rates r way too high, and it spoils the fantastic work done in every other area of contructing these beautiful beats.
Btw, it was my b'day 2day - I turned 33.Actually , it was my b'day yesterday (Sunday the 8th Oct) here in Sydney, but I understand that it's still Sunday night in the US, so it's still my b'day 4 a couple of more hours somewhere in the world!! I received a couple of great presents.A Palm m100 PDA, and an awesome book on the Macchi C.200/202/205 series of fighters. It has in-depth photos from existing examples, as well as from historical sources, colour diagrams of camouflage schemes, and in-depth line drawings of every part of the a/c in question - especially the cockpits, which r just fantastic. If anyone here is working on any of the C.20x series fighters and they need any help, plz let me know & I'll try & scan the necessary pages 4 u ASAP.
