Not having played SDOE in single player mode for a while I came across a bug that was new to me last night. I have Nations v1 installed (I'll download v2 when I get ADSL in a few days). My SDOE install was cut and pasted from my old HD over a new install on my new system (so the registry setting are pucka). It works fine unless I try and select any of the pilots I had previously set up under Nations v1 - if I attempt this I get an immediate dump to desktop. I tried deleting the original Russian, Japanese and Italian Pilots and creating new ones but then I get DTed on confirming the pilot's creation ???Funny thing is that Nations works fine: the aircraft are available, as are the squadrons and wingman calls. I don't have the original nations v1 zip file to hand to compare my existing install but from what I remember it just exists as a par file (I can't remember which one to un-pack). Anyone have any ideas, I checked the pilot files and can't see any obvious errors? ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Hmm, that is odd! Jeeves, do you remember running into this at all? Honestly this is the first time I've heard about that. Does the readme say anything about backing up files (I know it's too late, but maybe it'll provide a better starting point for figuring out what went wrong).I'll think on it, but that is odd. If you have a chance to do the following tests, it'll help me help you more: 1. Does sdoe work fine when you select a default pilot (ie: German, Brit, US) that you created before installing Nv1? 2. Same as #1, except after installing? In rereading your post I'm thinking of two things: 1. It could be related to your copy/paste, although I can't explain how & 2. It sounds like maybe a ppf file is out of date - like one that gives sdoe the parameters for the new nations. My advice is to d/l Nv2 and see if you're still having problems - remember to overwrite anything it asks you to overwrite, when unzipping it. Email me if you're still having trouble. Werner, pilot creation for the default nations is fine, both previously installed pilots and new ones. I suspect your idea of the ppf file could be the reason. Do you know what ppf files nations overwrites so I can check to see if the correct entries are present. If not I will download v2 in the next week or so anyway. ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Heya guys...Sorry it took me so long...just got home! Well-- while I don't remember that happening to anyone before, I can give you answers to your other questions... Nations is in par6 and is made up of the StringTable.ppf which should be in Media (unless it is packed in par 6? I didn't do the packing back then so I don't remember), and there is also the score.ppf and the gui.ppf which can be found (or should be placed in your Media/Gui folder)...I think that is all the ppf files we had in Nations-- hope this helps! I can't think of any reason other than the absence of one of these files for you getting dumped. ------------------ Brought to you by the campaign for a better Dauntless! Jeeves =FC= IP: Logged |

Hmm... Well, Jeeves has given me an idea, so here are my suggestions to you Yardstick -1. Download v2, then this should all be a bad memory, nothing more. 2. If you're really keen on getting this fixed first, I suggest you (using bigmunger) unbig data6.par into an empty folder, find the .ppfs Jeeves listed and copy/paste them to the same directories where they appear in the data6.par directory structure. Oh! Oh! Oh!!! Another idea! (again due to some wisdom Jeeves recently shared with me... )It could also be that somehow you have copies of the same ppfs that come with nations outside the parfiles already, and either they're out of date or corrupted somehow, but nonetheless are overriding the nations ppfs. So, if you are going to follow advice #2, make sure you delete the ppfs with the same names as those in data6 before copy/pasting. This will, I'm fairly certain, result in the loss of your offline pilot profiles (I'm sorry!!) so I hope that isn't too big a deal for you. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today!
