It already happened with the first release of Nations. The french version of FSSDOE doesn't run with the StringTable.ppf from Nations V2...
Grrrr... I found how to fix it in NV1 but it doesn't work in NV2.

Are you sure to have debugged this?
I'm sorry to say that, but if I can solve the problem, what about the french lambda users?

The only solution, for now, is to run FSSDOE in English. I can even see the Loader800.tif from Pacific, that I wasn't able to see in french setting...

I'm not so lost to use FSSDOE in English but I really don't understand why the french beta testers (who cares about who are the french guys who have worked on Nations V2 as most of the people here are english-speaking?) haven't met the problem?
What about the German or Italian users?

If NationsV2 contains a french Nation, I suppose that a lot of french afficionados of FSSDOE want to play it?

Oh, maybe my box is exotic? French Win98se, french keyboard, french mouse, french telecom, french time... Shit! It must be the reason...

Well...

first, it's fixed, download and install http://perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet/StringTable.zip

Be careful though, when installing I don't know if you will be compatible with the rest of the world. Well, not a big issue, if you want to play online just switch to English.

OK, I'm sorry. This shouldn't have passed the beta testing. First, very few people use SDOE in French as the mission editor does not work in French. During the development of French squads, I was testing both in French and English, with a little more priority on English because of the above, and also because French people are more likely to know about their own history than the others.

During the merging with Australia, however, one bug reappeared from NV1 and a new one showed up. No, strUnionSoviétique and strL'Australie are not valid identifiers. This is exactly the same bug as the mission editor trying to create units called "Unité1". I remember fixing strUnionSoviétique by myself when NV1 came out, it was such a quick fix I simply forgot to mention it to the rest of the team.

I'm sorry I did not re-test this during the final beta testing stage. I removed Nations download from my site until I find time to merge the fix.

Sorry, Arrowbase, this is not an attempt to marginalize or otherwise repress gameplay in french. Truth be told France is one of my favourite nations to fly because I am bilingual in french and it's nice to hear a foreign language over the radio (other than Australia ) that I can understand (other than...)!

My apologies for this not making it through the beta process. If there are other users who run sdoe in a language other than english, please let me know (keepinga@cadvision.com) so we can fix V2.0 on a case-by-case basis for you and get it right for V3. To everyone else, 2.0 stands as the most current edition, since to the majority of users this question is entirely academic.

Merci les gars.
Thanks officers to support me. I also noted a few "bizarretés" in the list of the Nations (in English).
A kind of mouseover behavior. My first reaction has been: "Oh no... I can just see Great Britain".
Then, my mouse pointer coming over the line under, Germany appeared, another line and that was United States which decided to come out, and so on until France.
That doesn't not happen with the Squadrons (btw, very nice job Pachy, I believe this part is yours, isn't it?).
Wanting to check if my graphic card didn't get mad, I have uninstalled NV2 and re-installed NV1.
Result: all the list appeared immediately, so I have no idea on what's going on.
Anyway, except the bugs in French language, (even from Parsoft, FSSDOE is full of bugs in French, then...), I will continue to fly with NationsV2 as it increases a lot the game.

Pachy, je vais télécharger ton fix, juste pour voir si ça tourne en français. I will keep you in touch.

Thnx - yes spent quite a lot of time looking up squadrons info. Well, have a look at the books/websites referenced in the README.

I noticed this behavior also long ago. Maybe since NV1. The dropdown lists look empry but their contents appear as the mouse passes over.

I strolled on two of them (Monier's site and Gensot's site where I got the most of the documents for the painting of the Jug GC2 / 5 La Fayette). I also read the Clostermann's book, terrifying and most of the time fascinating.

I have the project to paint Saint-Ex's Lightning which could be able to introduced P38 into Nations (even though this Lightning therewas a F35), and also, a skin of Spit from GC2 / 7 Nice in her winter livery (different from the one that you (Pachy) have already realized) is on the takeoff runway.

With all this historic wealth, it's really brilliant to have realized France (and the others of course).

Long life to Nations!

Arrowbase, the same mouse behavior happens in the Mission list (the list showing the Mission folders, not the one showing the Missions themselves). It occurs after you add additional selections. It's like the display is limited to a set number of entries. If you exceed that number the display goes blank until you pass your mouse over it. Sounds dumb but that's what happens. It's an irritant and I have no clue if there is a fix. Maybe it was fixed in one of the beta patches?

Aye the menus lists are limited to a number of things it can have in it. If it exedes that number, the list screen is blank until you move your cursor over it. The fix? Im guessing if you can find the code for the menus that are used... you should beable to fix it. I'll see if I can dig up anything after I do Razers P-39 cockpit. I know it most games, you can edit the menu code with a Hex editor IF you can find and extract the right files. (I do this for AoE and AotP alot when I add a new plane and I want the menu to show the correct name for the plane.)

Arrowbase - Would you be at all interested in beta testing V3? Given that you found this bug and I haven't received any other, similar reports I think you would be a great asset to our team! If you're interested, send me an email. It's not a lot of work, you just download V3 a week or two earlier than everybody else and report bugs to me.

Yes, I thought also of something like that.
It seems as soon as the file stringtable.ppf exceeds certain size in bytes or a number of lines, there would be a problem (maybe) of stake in memory. I don't know how it can be fixed.

ArgonV

I have enough work to do and I don't want to edit the game.exe to trap JE, JNE or JUMP or to make reverse engineering.
I think it is better to track the bugs from the ppf files when it is possible.
And by the way, MHarrison is already working on a patch, at least, the last time I read something about him, is he?

Pachy

Thanx, your stringtable.ppf is OK and SDOE doesn't make a CTD anymore with the French language choice. However, I still have the mouseover bug.

I sent you an email
