Its getting there. Thought it would be finished by now. Replaced buble canopy with what I "think" is more "realistic"(I hate that word).

If I cann't get here wrapped up soon I'll ask for some help(i.e. low level lods, damage)

Great! I must say I would really like flying this sucker. The Go-229 and He-162 FMs are all screwed up so they arent that pleasureful to fly. (The only other real German secret weapons that have ben made for SDOE) Your secret weapon looks and I hope flies like a killer!

Wil- what a great plane! I can't wait to try her out. She looks beautiful and dangerous. Please don't take the rest of this post as a comment on your fine work though.

Argon:
About the GO229 and HE162, I think the developers of those craft (Panzer and Roadtoad for the final versions) built them to fly as true to possible to the flight characteristics the craft would have had.

I loved both those planes in SWOTL. I don't fly them much in SDOE, because they are so tricky. Sometimes I wish they were built to be fun, not realistic. Just as sometimes I wish we could hack SDOE into a full SWOTL conversion. However, the grown-up "sim"-er in me is embarrassed that I use to think that SWOTL was a great flight sim. I now know it was the best flight game ever, but that SDOE is a better sim.

As a result, I wouldn't want to fly those two planes in SDOE online if they were just "uber" planes built to be fun not realism.

Oh No! We're about to re-open the reality versus game debate.

Goth: this is not a question of realism, the He-162 has major modelling problems as Pete Hawk explained in this thread.

wil - AWESOME!

Argon - Like the torpedoes, it's a question of practice. I really enjoy flying the 229, because from a bomber stream's perspective it's like shooting at the edge of a sheet of paper. It is a rare occurance if I even take bullet hits during my intercept runs, and usually I get 1-3 bombers out of a 4-5 bomber stream over two passes when flying solo. That's pretty good compared to intercepts with the 190s 109s or 262!! Not only that but landing, when set up correctly, is less likely to end in a flipped crate or a bent prop than some of the bouncier single prop fighters. And the 163.. what fun! My survival rate isn't quite as good in that one, I still find it as easy to fly as any other single engine plane, except that you have to be a bit careful at low speeds ie: landing.

In other words, to say the 229 and 162 are "screwed up" is as accurate as saying the Huey or your torpedoes are "screwed up" because they take some practice. Sure, they're all hacks to one degree or another, but with a little effort they're a lot of fun!

My Gotha vs your Boeing any day, Argon

Cant wait Wil!

Hehehe, I knew this would happen. Actually, if you read that post that Pachy linked, you will find that the He-162 and Go-229 are "screwed up" Its true they do take practice, and believe you me I do have practice in them! Intecepting in them both is quite fun.

But, I do believe the FMs are "screwed up" Why you ask? Because the AI cannot fly the Go-229. Why...? If you open up the sm file you will notice that the airfoil direction arrow on one of the Gothas wings is not pointing upward. (Like it is in all the other planes) It is pointing downward on one side! (The right side to be exact) And the He-162s model is not positioned correctly. Me and Pete have looked into these issues and and have concluded the FMs really are screwed.

Now I do not want these planes to be "uber" planes. I just want them to have descent flight models that are fixed. I have read the offical flight testing reports of the Gotha and the current FM is far off from matching them. The He-162 is closer in its FM, but still it has a modeling problem. Now the Huey isnt screwed up at all. In fact Im pretty darned good at landing and taking off with her. She is a pleasure to fly as well!

Now as for taking me on in a B-17 Werner.... are you sure you want to do that? Ive ben know to pull some wild stunts in a Boeing. You will find that the equation ArgonV+B17=Terror in the skies!

Argon - I've long since given up trying to understand how FM works. Imo if you can fly it, it's not screwed up. Anyways, I'm too busy with equations like Y(t)=Yo + VyoT + (1/2)at^2 (and all the physics geeks in here go "oooh, easy one!", yeah, I know, but the forum isn't exactly an easy place to start talking calculus!) to realistically consider duelling with you. Over Christmas perhaps. In the meantime, Argon, consider this little pre-calc tidbit:

Likelihood of hit as..
lim Gotha229+X = 0
WM->X

How's that for a little cheekiness, physics style?
