I just bought sdoe and put it in
i went to do a training mission and when it went to load the screen went black and my pc froze
i then went to load a single mission, not only did it take ten minutes to load one stinking mission, but i couldnt figure out what keys to use thanks to no keyboard mapping option in the game. Well i crashed, when i went to load the mission again, it froze up on me. what am i doing wrong here

Spanky here...

Well the first time you play a mission in a theater it will load really slow cause its building the texture cache for that theater.

From then on it should load pretty quick.

I'm not sure why its locking but I thought you would like to know that.

I tried to run it in glide but it would show a black screen and lockup when i went to load a mission. IN d3d i play a mission with no problems, but when i go to do another mission it doesnt show the loading screen it just goes to a black screen and has the taskbar on the bottom and the whole pc locks up. aaaaahhhh this is really pissing me off.

What are your system specs? What 3d card do you have?

yep this is definitely a system problem, you should make sure your video drivers are installed correctly, install Directx7a after installing the latest video drivers.

As was said above all terrains will load slowly the first time you enter them, or if you change between Glide and D3D and back again, and even slower on your machine since it's only 200mhz, but as was said, once loaded if you don't change display type it will load alot faster next time.

The main thing here is check your system, video drivers sound like the problem to me, and V3's are annoying to install properly, I have one myself and have nothing but trouble when I update the drivers.

You still need to answer semmern's questions so we can rule out hardware limitations.

Which missions freeze up. Many of the custom missions call for planes/objects that are user made and will lock you up if you don't have them installed or haven't updated your startup file to accomodate them. Other missions are so "full" they overload your video card.

I have a p200 with 64 megs of ram and a voodoo3 3000.
i am running in d3d since glide locks up on any mission
it doesnt pertain to any particular mission. when i first start up i can play any mission with no problems, but when im done with whichever mission and i go to start another then it gets messed up. I downloaded all of those files to meet the online standard. i dont know what you mean for updating a startup file but i doubt that will fix it

You're not going to like this answer I think wulf, but whats happening to you happend to me last Feb. I stopped all flying and work on SDOE because of it.. not long after something else screwed up meaning I had to re-install Windows.. then guess what, SDOE worked fine after that.

So, my answer that I hope would help if you carried it out is to re-install Windows to a new directory, not overwriting your old install as this would keep any errors, what this will mean though is that you will have to re-install all of your main progs etc, but for me I had to, and it also meant that SDOE worked fine again afterwards.

well i dont think im that committed to that game. everything else works fine so im not about to re-install everything. Ill just deal with quitting and going back into sdoe for every mission.
oh well

(for me) in game freezeups have always been caused by overclocking my machine / video card or the inside of my machine getting too hot.

I actually had to clock my TNT2 Ultra _down_ from it's default settings or else i would get lockups.
