Spanky here..

Hi guys i was thinking about this after talking with a guy on the icq active list.

Is haveing a gunner in the same plane as the pilot over the net even possible with current technology?

Lag is built in to SDOE online to keep us from seeing people lag all over the sky, essentialy people are all playing there own game of SDOE and that copy talks to all the other copys and sends position speed and direction of travel and damage. As far as i know anyways.

Well how can you have that built in lag and be in the same plane?

RIght now the plane you see just barly in front of you is really 100meters in front of you.

That seems to work for fighting but what about when your pilot is 100 meters in front of you?

Just some thoughts, since i know we all want this for SDOE someday.

Longbow 2 had pilot/gunner capability in it. That was back in 97/98.

Air Warrior from 1990 and in its current version - Air Warrior III - has had and still has this capability. It is really very fun to do. The question is can MH modify the code to allow this for SDOE?

Lag is not an issue, it is hard to explain why but suffice it to just say from the gunners perspective the pilot is not going to be 100 meters futher ahead from your view point. The emeny planes you are shooting at however will be off by 100 meters just like if you were attacking from an aircraft.
I hope this helps.

I think you can still play Air Warrior III through gamestorm(www.gamestorm.com) for $9.95 a month unlimited access.

I mused this out once over on Pete's board. I don't have time to go through the thought process right now. But I remember that everything fell out and that it should work fine, at least as far as delay/lag is concerned. From what Condor posted, I think he's got a handle on the issues.

Because unless they are planning on releasing a buggy SDOE 2 they will have to debug the openplane engine first.
