Well - the Pe-2 is good enough, but the I16 is worse. At least the FM. Not much use it online because of its strange FM.

My plan:

1. new main panel/instruments (using the new Pe-2 textures instead of the old ones)

2. small lod changes if necessary

3. same as 2. for the switchins

4. new pilot

5. some DM changes (to make it more "compatible" with the Pe-2 DM)

6. moving ailerons (when they work as flaps)

7. new sounds

8. all I can fix till deadline

I would need some weeks , but I WILL NOT start if no one will start with the FM. I cant do it, cause I'm no FM man. All I know is that Tailslide got alot of good sources/informations for the I-16 FM.

Will you join ?

Welcome back Laika! But, I still don't know what you mean. Cool pics though.

How about the basics - opening cockpit, and the right zoom level from inside the cockpit?

Oh yes, changing the gunsight position is an excellent idea. Right now it is very low, making deflection shooting barely possible because you cannot see your target if you are turning with him.

OK - the "basics":

A) The I16 ("normal" production line) did never ever come with a closed cockpit, just this small windscreen, not more.

B) The zoom level is 96% right
- all my (good) sources told me that the view out of the cockpit is worse, shitty whatever - i.e. you can NOT see the ground when you SIT in the plane, soviet pilots sometimes stand up to see more on landings (no good way to simulate this in SDOE).

C) Alot of I16 crashes happend because of untrained pilots + B)

I could change the quick-view-keys of course (1c) and maybe the shadows

And finally I posted the pics to show you the I16 again maybe you forgot how it looks in action ?

great pics, Laika!
I love your old Pe-2 promotional animated GIF too. Great shots, all... and a beautifully done plane.

I think we could simulate the pilot standing up in the Rata. Well, it doesn't have a canopy, right? The pilot model could be changed to have legs and a keypress DOF to make him stand up. This would also move the viewpoint, right?

Damnit..damnit..damnit...

I know Tail is busy with his new employment so I suddenly become the single FM "guy"

ACK!

Laika, I'll be away next week and my time will be very precious after that ... But because your I-16 is in the same "timeline" as my PZL P11c, it only benefits me to work on the I-16s FM.

I'll see what I can do.

Vision in the I-16, actually, was so bad that its pilots stood up when they taxied. Now lets convert Dirk to Igor and get him to stand up when you start the engine and sit down above 40mph or so

I think the rata is great already. My only suggestion is that the windscreen textures look 2d not 3d(I mean the frames)Rather like the spit before it got the new canopy frames. An update here would be great for immersiveness.Otherwise I really think Laika has done outstanding work and I fly both of his great creations frequently.

I think semmern has a good idea. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to tie the pilot to a DOF that would allow you to move the pilot up and down with a key press. It might be difficult to force the pilot to stay sitting above a certain speed though...
