Spanky here..

Nope just a JPG he just didn't compress it into crap like some people do.

For those that don't know any time you make a JPG from a screen shot the software you use will let you change the compression amount
start high and go down till you notice a major reduction in quality and then bump it back up a hair.

Its hard to show off your plane when the JPG compression is so high it looks like somthing from 1992

Hehe

I'm almost to the point of adding weapons and loadouts to this thing. Nat, it'd make sense to me that I should ask for your help since you are doing great things with the Hog.

Basically I just need to know how to do it. How to place bombs/rockets on pylons, any info that has to go into a loadout file, etc.

I'm glad you all are liking it! I appreciate all of your comments

Guys,

This thing is FUN! I just flew a mission, 3 Harriers vs 3 A-4s and it lasted much longer than I thought it would. In a Harrier you can easily get the advantage and make your kill. Very fun. I'm so glad this thing is turning out nice. The next release will be the best yet!

Jag just asked me why I called it the Kestrel. Here's the link. http://www.vflintham.demon.co.uk/aircraft/kestrel/kestrel.htm

It says Hawker P1127. Funny that's my callsign, and the other neat thing is 11/27 is my wifes birthday (and of course P for Pete... hehe)

Air Cdre. "Sharkey" Ward said after the Falklands War that "at no time during combat would I have swapped my Sea Harrier for another jet."

To anyone who may know, what aircraft would make the proper adversary to this one? Just thinking down the road what would be fun to fly against it and be historically correct. The Etendard of Argentina? That and I suppose my A-4 in a different countries paint scheme, but which, also Argentina?

Thanks

Opponents? How about a YAK-36? Then you can both try to get the hover advantage...

Snick - the Yak-36 (Forger as it was called) could only land vertically, and it had to use ramp take offs, because with three engines (two lift+one cruise) it was too heavy to get off vertically. When you selected hover mode in it, it started descending slowly, nothing to stop it

Hermes Class CV

HMS Hermes...commissioned 1959...sold to India 1985...now called the Viraat.

Invincible Class CVSA

HMS Invincible...commissioned 1980
HMS Illustrious...1982
HMS Ark Royal...1985

I think it was the Hermes and Invincible that were involved in the Falklands Campaign.

Hate to rain on the parade, but that texture just won't cut it in the Falklands!

Sure they sent a few RAF bombers down eventually, but air-to-air was the Sea Harrier

A different bird, but near enough in outline. Canopy should be more raised, but who's going to know!

Colour scheme should be Navy Blue, and if you want to play 'Sharkey' better put the 899 squadron 'flying Fist' on the tail. Sharkey flew with 899 , formerly 700 A squadron, the Intensive Flight Trials Unit ( My Old Man was Chief Air Engineering Officer of 700A at RNAS Yeovilton) Gives you a clue why their kill to loss ratio was so good. They were the best Harrier pilots anywhere!

Not that I'm biased here, but I have met these people, and heard many a tale of Mr Wards less glamourous exploits as a Phantom pilot on Ark Royal..... ( Pa was AEO for 892 Squadron on the Ark when they filmed 'Sailor' on board. He avoided the camera though!)

I know of someone ready to tip a bucket of paint over this baby as soon as its released....no not me....someone who can actualy do a decent job at it!

It might just be a Seaharrier scheme too...

Speaking of the Falklands, a C-130H from the RAF did this not so small feat of flying directly to the Falklands in 28hrs!! Not bad for a prop plane with a max speed in th 400 mph region!

By this weekend I hope to have a gray paint scheme ready as well. I'll leave the navy blue one for anyone who wants to tackle that.

WTG, yes, send me some squadron markings/paint schemes! (btw are they the same ones as on the RAF site? I have those already).

Thanks

Also, to make this Hawker-Siddeley Kestrel into a Harrier (or Harrier II) about the only thing that needs changing is the fuselage, and to move the wingtip wheels inward a little bit. The FM wouldn't need to be touched much since it's tough to get these planes to fly correctly VTOL, and this one is very close as is. If one of you want to convert this to a true Harrier (or Sea Harrier) go for it!! You may want to wait until this next release though
