Being the one that put 5.3 (and patches) together, i figured i'd let everyone know a
few things. (NOTE: when i say "We" i mean the community and OPP crew.)
The Planepack was setup to keep everyone online on the same page. It was also
designed to give SDOE a major upgrade and a face lift so it wasn't just the same ol
game we all first bought. We also set guide lines on planes being added to the pack
to keep problems down. (which it did for a few months.)
The Online Standard was setup to keep veteran pilots and newbies on the same
page so when you wanted to fly online, there would be little to no mismatches. As
mean of you know, there is tons of people working on new things all the time, so a
random mismatch wouldn't be out of the blue.
The only problem with this was we had so many Online Standard pages, it was hard
keeping them the same.
Everyone tried to work around it but it did cause problems later on.
Now that's out of the way, I'll let you in on how we picked planes for the Planepack.
========Planepack========
1. Planes with Flight Model work, based on real numbers or pilot data can be
added to the Planepack.
2. The 3D model must look like the real plane, and have little to no texture mapping
problems.
3. The plane must not cause Crash to Desktops upon crashing into the ground.
4. Any plane in heavy development and still listed by the maker as a beta will not be
added to the pack unless maker specifically asks for it to be included due to the next
version of the plane wont be ready for 3 weeks or greater.
5. Any and all ground objects that enhance game play can be added at anytime. (we
really didn't do anything with this since most people was making planes and not
ground objects)
(there's more but i can't think of anything else right now)
=====Contest Pack=====
The contest pack was put together so everyone had all the great planes release for
the contest and there wouldn't be mismatches online.
Most if not all the planes in the contest pack meet the Planepack standard.
There are some planes in the Planepack that don't meet the standard set but they
were already in the pack after the standard was set and removing them would have
cause problems since many online missions used these planes.
With all the new planes coming out, i asked that people put the names of what your
using in the game name so people would know what's being used. this worked for a
bit and some people still do this, but not a lot. This does help when you are wanting
to fly.
Now, i know there is a lot i'm forgetting, but this is all i can think of right now, and
i'm not used to typing this much.
If you have any other questions post here and i'll try to answer them. I hope this
clears a few things up.
