Well my system finally got so flakey i decided to shuffle the components around inside, replace the heatsink and fan on my CPU, and reinstall the O/S. System is approx 10 deg C cooler now and I bit the bullet, installed win ME. Downloads are much faster on my cable modem now! Also experimented with the latest 6.18 detonator 3 drivers for my TNT2.. it does NOT have the flickering cloud problem in SDOE anymore, and the quality of the graphics is improved. Also, checking "use alternate Z ordering" in the advanced D3D tab helped reduce (but not eliminate) jaggies in SDOE.
System seems stable as a rock now, and boots/shuts down much faster - very happy !
