Consolidated Aircraft Corporation announced to Government officials today that they have made rapid progress in rebuilding the lost PBY-5A. This reporter was allowed inside the factory and saw the first unit, already with glassed in cockpit and front turret. Government inspectors went aboard to assure themselves that this airplane was not a "fake" as there had been reports that the earlier version was. They came away with that assurance.
Later I was allowed to watch her on her first test flight. While not yet fully dressed out or balanced she took to the air with a determination that spells trouble for all Axis shipping.
Consolidated is looking for someone who can help get the FM into a base configuration. It is felt that with a small amount of assistance, this plane can still be finished before the deadline.
