If anyone has tried to e-mail me in the last few days British Telecom have killed my phone line and consequently I can't access my mail accounts. They can't get an engineer around until Saturday (5 days after the fault was reported!) Anyway come October 2nd it's ADSL for me Only problem is that BT are the provider and BT Internet the ISP.

Well at least the 1ghz TBird rig is humming along now. I needed an L4 digital game card to sort out the controller spiking (a Via chipset problem I'm told) but apart form that Comanche Hokum with 2x FSAA at 1024 looks great and GPL with the same settings runs above 30FPS - even with starts from the back of the field. I have SDOE running at 1152 (I think) with 4x FSAA in D3D and generally get 50 FPS in all but the most congested of furballs.

Having built my gaming rig, I rebuilt my old PC for my wife and on Friday I'm going to build a new system for my sister. This PC building is fun and, trouble shooting aside, really quite easy once you get the hang of it

Thanks for the info Yard.

Maybe the telephone cables run under your front path and the weight of all that new equipment arriving must have damaged it

Hehe.

Glad to here you are one of the lucky ones to get ASDL in the UK. Its not coming to my part of Scotland for at least 12 months, and even then I will be too far from the local exchange for it to work. Latest setup I am investigating is ISDN2e line (when more ports in the local exchange are installed, they are all used at present) to give me 128Kb upload and a Satelite link of 2Mbs download from eurosky.net , latency may be a prob due to distances involved and speed of light not being fast enough LOL but at £9.99 a month for the Satelite feed and £4.99 for the upload Isp link is worth a try for those people who live in the middle of nowhere. You also need a special pci card to feed the Sat signal into the pc, but you can watch Sat tv at the same time.
