Spanky here... Hi guys. Usually I do most of my own research in this stuff and 3 months ago I could have told ya exactly what i would get if i had the money. well I didn't but now that I'm working and I have some spare income, (I know Its amazing, but I'm only talking around 200 canadian a month) its almost time. So some questions. I know some parts i need, like a new cdrom, case and monitor (as these ones aren't mine)
But I also need a new vid card, MB and Chip.
I'm thinking of going with a duron 700 but my question is will it work with my PC100 ram that i have right now? I don't have the money to spend on that.
For a vid card i'm thinking a voodoo 4500.
Anyreason I shouldn't? Specialy since hawk or hawker said he got his running SDOE after adjusting some settings?
Please keep in mind that I mostly play SDOE.

WellI now if ya go celeron ur pc 100 sdram is ok,and voodoo usually always gets along well with intel chips.As for the voodoo 4500 yes it works in sdoe but what is better that glide(which gives ya better framerates) works in sdoe.If ya get the voodoo and a good old celeron I know u will be happy.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yeah but a cel is slower and more expensive then a duron. A duron 700 is 179 here, a cel 566 is 189. THe motherboard for the duron says pc100 or pc133 ram, so i might go with that. To bad the duron MBs are more expensive. Also I have a board that would work with a cel on a board but its not working, I bought it used and it looks like i got shafted.
sucks ass. What can ya do though. Any duron owners out there? Let me know how yours works. and what other parts you are running, and if ya have it OCed. IP: Logged |

I have my Cel 566 overclocked to 850 with no probs, if that helps any. Using plain-jane Voodoo 3/3000, runs SDOE smoothly in 1152x862 D3D or 1024x768 Glide.------------------

Spanky here... Yeah I'm thinking duron all the way. Unless I run into a used board that i can slap a cel into. Doubt it though, used hardware in this town is hard to come by. oh yeah I'll ask again, If anyone has any decent parts that they want to sell, let me know. I'm looking for mid to high end chips ram and voodoo3s and tnt2s or above. I'll pay shipping too. It will help pay for your upgrade if your not starting a huge basement network LOL. Where are you at, Spanky? I should be getting my g400 Max in a week or so then I'll be selling my v3 3000 AGP, my ATI 8mb PCI and AGP (spare card ) and Savage3 8mb. I might hold on to the ATI 8mb AGP (no fighting for that hot one, now ) an be selling a 6256 (the SiS monster 3D cruncher - you give it 3d stuff and it goes crunch ). I am in a bit of a mess now. I have a 433 Celeron 810e system to put together for sale so I have parts all over the room (except the memory, which I am 'burning in' hehehe...)IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Hehe don't peddle that ATI crap around here. I will never touch any ati cards EVER. LOL they almost all suck and have driver issues up the ass. LOL I would be interested in a voodoo3 at a good price. I'm in ontario canada but I don't mind paying the shipping and exchange as long as its a good price. What ever that is LOL. BTW do you have enough vid cards>? LOL

I'm quite the pack rat. I just replaced the Savage3 with a 32mb Savage4 Pro+ (much nicer card), have both the V3 and the ATI PCI in my card (dual display - tasty ), and bought the AGP ATI just in case. That 8mb Sis thing came free with a mother board I bought. Darn good motherboard, lousy video card. It might be about a week or two before the v3 is ready to ship, email me and I'll tell you what I want for it and we can go from there.IP: Logged |
