1. Would it be possible to modify the code to allow the airMax and airAdvantage to be changed during runtime. Like the airInc.

This would allow for control surface damage without using a Hack that messes up the AI. It would be very easy to add control surface damage to all the planes.

2. After your current project is released, could there be a small patch that would change this for us. (Not an all inclusive patch that solves every problem.) But one that just addresses this.

Fingers crossed....

er... I thought they can be... if they can't then I don't know how the control surface damage effects on the A10 are working.

Has anyone tested much with the A10 and found that there are or aren't working.. it seems like they work to me.

Well... supposedly it can be done, and has been done. MH said over a year ago he had done it, it was a 10 minutes (or so) hack, and it'll be in the next beta. I'm still waiting...

Not giving up... I think one thing with the patch, sometimes we expect too much. All problems are not solvable. If we could have even a few easy things in a small patch it would be great.

A small patch right now would really be a boost. A lot of people thought that SDOE would be gone by now, but everyday we get new people in the forum. I also think people are taking notice because we continue to crank out new stuff.

SDOE is like having several games. WW I, European Theater, Eastern Front, Pacific Theater, Now even very nice Jet Warfare. Not to mention all the Ships, Tanks, Ground Objects and Terrains, or the fun of creating objects using OpenPlane.

I think we are on a roll, and adding this type of control surface damage (correctly) and more visual damage to all the planes will set the stage for the next project.

Steps down....trips over soapbox

Spanky here...

Well as much as I bitched about a patch. I really think we are going to have to wait until they are pretty much done with RC sim.

It seems like its crunch time and that they are pretty busy.

Hopefully they will take a short brake after they are done it and maybe take a look at some SDOE stuff.

I would love to hear of some of their plans for SDOP and if they still plan on doing it.

Raider, as has been stated several times, (I need to bookmark a previous thread ) there's no such thing as a small patch. We have a single code base, so everything that's in there now would make it into the patch. It takes a few of hours to build the patch as-is, and would take a couple of days to back off to v1.5 "plus one or two changes."

We are in crunch mode right now. We're trying to wrap up R/C Sim in the next few weeks. We'll have to look at a new patch for SDOE after that.

Spanky here...

Thanks for the update Mighty.

Seems like your Inertia consumer relations around here, I think you should hit up the boss for a raise since your keeping us informed so well.

Thank you for the input Mighty. By all means, I want to see R/C Sim complete and successful.

I expect that once it is out you will still need to give it a lot of attention through the early days/weeks. Plus, you guys need a little break after all this. I hope we here can be helpful as well.

I agree with Spanky on that last part.

well, my comment still stands I think, the control surface damage your asking about has been done, if not by anyone else (I dunno) but atleast by me, it's implemented on the A10 and as far as I can tell works fine, I haven't made complicated changes yet, they are on hold until I get the texured model back from Razer, but I have changed the airAdvantage and I think airMax (unsure off the top of my head), all I can tell you is it works fine on the A10, and further such changes will be added to the final version.

Raider and Nat,

I know it might be a little expensive over the phone(maybe you could use roger wilco), but could you guys talk over the details of your damage control changes and between the two of you and maybe bjorn included, figure out a way to do these damage effects without needing a patch from MH and Mighty, without a huge hit to frame rates, and without an impact to how ai handles the planes.

It sounds like Nat has this already in the A10. Is that correct Nat(AI flys fine, doesn't bail on minor damage, and the effects don't hit the frame rate too hard)?

Really just a suggestion here in my "perfect world where money and time have no impact on real life".

PS: Nat, I would really like to test what you have for the A10 so far so if you want email it to me and I will test it until the cows come home!

I'll second that! Yes, Mighty, thank you for the updates, it is very much appreciated. I hope you, MH and the rest of the crew meet with great success in your RC sim! One question though, who's your publisher? I sure haven't seen much publicity around for a sim that's wrapping up!!

The publisher is Ripmax, http://www.ripmax.com. They're the largest distributor of R/C equipment in Europe. Since it's not a game they haven't been advertising in game-related markets/web sites.

The A10 beta1 was released on the EZ Board forum, the download link is http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/A10Beta1.zip

And yes, I have control surface damage that doesn't affect FR at all, the AI doesn't bail at the first opertunity (unless you have the settings turned down ofcourse.. lol) and other AI carry on firing at it even after alot of damage, until critical damage is reached.

I would like to have more people test on this basic level of control surface damage I've done before I make it more elaborate for the final version, so if anyone has tested I would like to have reports, good and bad, about how the control surface damage appears in your tests. I'll start a new thread for any findings now.
