Here is the work of Robert. It's a J21! Sweet looking eh? From what he told me, it's about 75% done. (Being optimistic there)

Robert, would you please post some info. on this bird please. Thanks!

God Damn! that looks awesome!

the J-21 has got to be one of the neatest looking planes ever!

Are we going to be lucky enough to get the Jet powered version too?

My thoughts EXACTLY as Biggles! GD!!! Very nice!!! I want that plane

You know, that paint job, especially on the nose/mouth area looks pretty low res.
I'm thinking make that sucker a two Tmap model (one sheet for the fuse and one for the wings/tail) and it'd make it much prettier looking.

ArgonV, I hate telling you, but 75% done is very very optimistic. Just about no DM work done at all, and FMs are just about to where it can fly at all. I'd like it if someone can do the FMs instead of me, I really don't know this field. Information seems to be hard to get, though.

Otherwise, I agree with all of you. Must be the coolest plane of them all, and I can't wait until it's done!

In a historical context how/when/where was this aircraft used? I recognize the rondelle, but did other countries besides Sweden use it?

Nice job! I love it when these planes "come out of nowhere", like the beaufighters, etc.

Thanks everyone!

I´m glad you seem to like it.

Yes, 75% complete was very optimistic, I just threw a figure in there. Sorry, I should have been more modest. For example the cockpit is still that of a P38.
Like Björn (who has given me much valuable help) wrote there is still a lot of FM/DM to do. If anyone is interested I´d be glad to let someone have a look at those things. I´m more of a 3d-modeler, I guess.

Yes, I have had thoughts on making a second map for the fuse, especially the nose. Then the sharkmouth or squadrons insignias could be done nicer. I don´t know what that would do to framerates though? (Since I think the 3d-model otherwise has a rather high polycount.)

Regarding the jet-version, the J21R, I guess I´ll have to finish this one first. But some things from this one could be used as a base for a jet-version. But, perhaps you could make it a J21R out of what I´ve done so far Biggles ?

ArgonV, what kind of info, performance?

Here it goes:

Engine: Daimler-Benz 605B (same as Bf109)
1475 hp

Dimensions:
Span: 11,60 m
Lenght: 10,45 m
Height: 4,00 m
Wingarea: 22,20 squaremeters

Fuelcapacity: 510 liters

Empty weight: 3250 kg
Normal t/o weight: 4150 kg

Top speed: 640 km/h
Cruise speed:495 km/h
Landing speed:145 km/h
Climb rate:15 m/sec
Max alt.: 11000 m

Armament: 1x20 mm cannon
4x13,2 mm machine guns
plus bombs and rockets when in the ground attack role

It first flew in 1943.
It was primarily used as a ground attacker, and secondarily as a fighter.

I also have charts comparing the J21´s performance/turnrate with the Mustang´s at different altitudes/speeds.(If anyone is interested)

No, Werner, the Swedish air force was the only user, both of the J21A(prop) and the J21R(jet).

Thanks again ArgonV for helping me show my work./Robert

Robert, thanks for the info! Wow! First flew in 1943 eh? Did not realize they had such radical designs in 1943!

Well, radical or not, the engineers had to figure out a way for the pilot to safely bail out, without being chopped up be the meatgrinder in the back! Hence, one of the first ejectionseats were constructed.
If someone wants to they can have a look at my J21 and see if they can add an ejectionseat to it. I guess it involves DOF´s and stuff, which I know very little of...I asked for help about that a while ago here at the forum and got several tips, but I haven´t tried any myself.

How about Blohm und Voss? Every single design they made was non-symetical. Like pilots out on the end of one wing, and gunners on the other.

I love the J21A and R. But when we're into cool looking planes the P-55 Ascender and the Japanese Shinden are very close contenders.

the best way to make an ejector seat is to have the base model of an aircraft the pilots seat instead of the aircraft itself, then it's a simple thing to have an ejection seat, done with either dof's, or more simply, a key to detach the whole of the aircraft from the seat. Now, wether the AI could eject that way I doubt, but who knows what our limits are with this one.

Couldnt you just tie the ejector seat DOF to the bail out command that the AI uses? Dont forget to add the ejector chair!

Aui,
you're spot on there!, the Ascender was a kick-arse looking plane, but northrop's 'black bullet' kicked even more arse!
