No doubt. Imagine the sense of horror for the guy who took that picture! Wow. I hope the survivors made it out ok, if there were any.Aside from the gruesomeness of that pic, for SDOE's purposes there is no reason we couldn't add something like that to the sim. Have a nose get blown to heck but still try to fly it... I don't know. Something someone with some free time could check out. I think this was mentioned before as well. IP: Logged |

I dont even think the pilot could see past all that bent/twisted debris/metal. I assume it was a flak shell that had a direct hit on the nose.IP: Logged |

By the looks of that, Id say the pilot or co-pilot are probably wounded. IP: Logged |

I don't know about this one in particular but I have seen photos of B-17's with the entire nose blown off which made it back. The key is how much damage to the pilots and/or controls.IP: Logged |

Spanky here... I thought wakeup tailgunner was working on a b17 update with a nose and tail that could be shot off. like just the end tip of the tail and just the glass nose. those would be cool, bombers need more parts that fly off. I wan't to see just the retracted gear get blown loose and free. or just a chunk of a wing. they are so much bigger they need more parts to loose then a fighter. IP: Logged |

This 15th Air Force B-17 was hit over Hungary after its bombing run. Although five parachutes were seen, the pilot, copilot, navigator, bombardier and top-turret gunner were lost by this fatal hit.G-man IP: Logged |

Nah. The copilot flew it back. Boh he and the pilot were wounded. Both the nav and the bobm-aimer were killed This is according to Squadron/Signals B-17 In Action. The B-17 was some bird that was able to fly with that amount of damage.IP: Logged |

I sure am working on this very same thing. It's taking longer than I had planned, for one very simple reason. The fuse is the easy bit, getting everything else to look good with it is the next thing, plus re-doing the window glass, which crosses boundaries where I want breaks. Oh, and I've been working hard finishing up midway airfields and doing some stuff with the B24. Oh and I got bored the other night and did a quick Arado Ar234. This may warrant finishing when I get the time. Too many projects, not enough time.... IP: Logged |

Nothing beats the story of the crewman who got the Flying Cross(or whatever the highest airman's award is) for manning all the aft guns on a B-17 after the rest of the crew got killed or wounded. There were eye witnesses to this as the nearby bomber crews could see the crewman running between guns - through all the bullet holes in the Fort's fuselage.IP: Logged |
