I was driving down the road, top down - nice sunny day. I had my ol' bossa nova CD goin' and I went to skip a track. Suddenly I heard a sound like my engine was going to explode! About a tenth of second later I relized that the sound was coming from above my head. I looked up and the sky was filled with roaring B17! Now I live in NH, we just don't get cool WW2 planes around here like you lucky guys in the rest of the country. I pulled off the road, but by the time I looked up it was just heading over the tree covered horizon headed on final for landing at Nashua airport, my airport So I went home, still startled from the loud sound and strange site - maybe it wasn't a B17 after all? Wow was it low for still being 4 miles out, but maybe it just seems that way becuase I'm used to seeing Ceasnas. Anyway, I went to the web to check the paper (they don't still use paper, do they?), and sure enough, front page!: http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/main.asp?FromHome=1&TypeID=1&ArticleID=17671&SectionID=25&SubSectionID=354 Funny how it flew RIGHT over my head, as if to let me know it was around. Looks like I have a fun Sunday planned

Awsome! Today I saw a DC-3 fly around town a couple of times. Last week I thought I saw a Spad flying towards Ohio. I didn't get a close look but I know the fly in is in a couple of weeks in Dayton. weasel[This message has been edited by weasel (edited 09-16-2000).] IP: Logged |

Yawn....boring....zzzzzz. Today I spent four hours watching the Spruce Goose being moved to it's new permanent museum in McMinnville, Oregon (about 30 minutes from where I live). The whole time a B-17 circled us at about 500 feet. Several times she flew right over the crowd. (Yes, sound can cause an orgasim ) The museum opens in March and will display the entire Evergreen Aviation warbird collection. They have a few planes on display now in a small museum accross the road from the new museum. The most notable plane on display now is a fully restored flight worthy ME 109G built in Germany in 1944! Most of the 109's you see are really Hispano 109's built in Spain after the war. This is going to be one kick-ass warbird museum and only 30 minutes away! Check it out: http://www.sprucegoose.org/ [This message has been edited by Jerry (edited 09-16-2000).] IP: Logged |

Geesh, I must be spoiled! I live 2 minutes from where they built the Goose. Those hangars are HUGE! The DC3 was built right here at Santa Monica airport...saw plenty of them here during the WWII anniversary. Oh, by the way guess what ugly neighbor is at the airport...Activision.IP: Logged |

Here is the best day for me.... Worst day of my life.... 1st wife just told me she wanted a divorce... nowhere job, the whole 9 yards.... friend of mine takes me out to the airfeild at Lake Elsinore in CA, Where I was living. Long story short, he convinces me to skydive with him. I do a tandem jump (Intructor and myself harnessed together under the same canopy). Well, that was the most intense thing I have ever done. I was all smiles, just like 90% of the rest of the people after thier first jump. so we are hanging around, talking to people, when over the PA at the field, we here them say, look over the lake.... and here comes a B-17 AND a B-24. They both did 3 flyby's, no more than 300 feet off the ground..... just for us crazy skydivers.... ;} that was amazing... to watch them zoom over, then swoop around for another pass.... incredible.... I will never forget that day..... Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |

The first day I was in London (I'm still there) last week, I was able to attend the final day of the Middle-Wallop airshow. There were many cool planes there including a Lancaster. It was really nice to have that sucker fly right overhead.IP: Logged |

The Aluminum Overcast offers rides if you can catch her near you. Costs about $350 dollars for an hours ride. You get a flight jacket with the ride. You also get to fly it.IP: Logged |

It is indeed the Collings Foundation here today. Fun day! Small airport, they have to clear a path for the B17 each time it goes to take off heheh. Saw the B17 take off and land 4 times, each with a low pass to follow... there is also 1 B24 here. Saw the P47 take off, wow! Also the P51, then they all fly together. An A10 was giving us quite a show as well, love that engine sound - boy did A10-Attack! get that one spot on The best part was whatching the standard aircraft trying to run business as normal, you could tell they were loving it! Here they are, B17 in front and an A10 behind you in line LOL, fun day! Some even tried to entertain the croud. Also the flight school was running student flights as well, talk about pressure! -Sv IP: Logged |

Lothar, you see 21 Spits in the air at the Battle of Britain 60th Anniversary Flypast, I think it was at Biggin Hill. Mind you 21 is a rather large number of Spits flying at once here in the UK, how many do you lot see in America? How many spits are in america?!Rasar out ------------------ "I want that plane! Sv, for $5 you can go aboard both. Did you? I have been in the Nine O'Nine four times. One time when it was in Oakland, Ca for maintenance, not an air show...no crowds. I was the only one on board for about 45 minutes! Gives me a woody each time. IP: Logged |

Down here in good ole Texas, I know a guy who works and flies the Texas Raiders. I have a piece of its origonal skin on a plaque in my closet on the wall. How many of you can wake up and rub an O.D. Green piece of a B-17? P.S. Any of you guys ever ben to Ellington Airforce Base? We put on a GREAT air show and do the reinactment of the Pearl Harbor bombing. Ive touched/looked really up close at: Corsairs, Wildcats, P-40s, P-51s, B-17s, Zeros, B-24s, B-25s and talked to the current pilots/owners of them. Close to air show time, its fun to watch the Zeros and Wildcats practice their dogfighting while sitting in my back yard. [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 09-18-2000).] IP: Logged |

Well down here in "Good ole Texas" we have a B-17 not to far from where I am. Chuckie, it was a Pathfinder. Took many pictures of it. They also have like 5 F-86 Sabres! They are also makin those Me262's! We have a bunch of cool stuff! We have a barrel from a F-4 Gunpod, we have a WWII Harley Davidson "Old Smokey". A Civel War Beyenet, but the thing I wake up and admire an item from my EVER EXPANDING DINOSAUR COLLECTION!!!!!!!! Yep, I've seen alot of cool things, like the Horten Flying wing, and a Sopwith Pup being restored, touched the rear end of the Enola Gay, and a Japanese plane that was scuttled on a sub, the Sub was that Aircraft carrier sub that Nat built, the subs were on their way to cripple the Panama Canal, and when told that they had surrendered, all were ordered to scuttle, this one was the only one left.IP: Logged |
