I'm sitting here getting started Tmapping the Harrier (ok, Kestrel), and a little voice in my head says "turn on the TV to TLC". I do and it's a show all about the Harrier Crap, this show has got me so determined to get this thing flying right! I wanna fly backwards, do the bow maneuver and all that, so now it's tweaking time (again). [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 09-13-2000).] IP: Logged |

Spanky here... Yeah TLC rocks, I missed the show but a friend taped it for me. It sounded good, I think it was all about VTOL aircraft. Hope its as good as it sounds. IP: Logged |

It is, just watched it again! I love how they show the programs twice each night, pretty cool. (and yes, I had to tape it too)IP: Logged |

I remember when we had a couple of them come into Kunsan one time. The cool thing about being overseas (other than a $9 case of beer) is that you get a ton of different aircraft in there. Those things were so cool when the took off. They just go from zero to airborne when they take off. Too cool.IP: Logged |

I was at Duxford on Sunday and saw the RAF and Navy going through their solo Harrier displays. Those Pegasus engines are noisy buggers but the display routine was something else. To see a combat jet undertaking a short takeoff roll, climbing vertically to 3,000ft, winging over and coming to a hover all in one fluid motion was something else. And the pirouette and backwards flight was a delight to see again.I have to saw though that the P-47 solo routine was the highlight for we - the crisp 8 point barrel role was the business. ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Pete, ya gotta watch those little voices in your head! Only thing I don't like about them showing everything twice on TLC is, if I have a day off or I'm unemployed, I end up watching the same programs twice! hehe The History Channel does the same thing. ------------------ -=TheReaper=- IP: Logged |

The first time I saw a Harrier they let it hover about 75 meters from the crowd. It was close enough that you could smell the kerosene exhaust and it blew a little grit onto the crowd. (This was a couple of months before the Ramstein crash.) Mostly what I remember was ROAR! ROAR!. Man, those things are loud. And looking at them from the front, they look like they're all engine. I know Mighty, the last time I saw one was at the Travis Air Show in 1999 and I realized I was more aware of how loud it was than watching the maneuvers it did.Reaper... I know, can lead to bad things IP: Logged |
