Hey guys, well, started on the "tarting" up of the A10a, although I still have problems with the mapping it doesn't mean there aren't other things to do, so I've done some work on the fuse and canopy, DM and DM effects (bulletholes, cannon holes and blast burns) and gernerally tidying the whole thing up.. well anyway, here's a couple of pics of how she's looking now.The Question I have for "those in the know" is looking at the second pic, you can see there is a see through triangle in the nose.. now, thos is'n't apparent fro every angle, only if you look at it from certain directions. Do any of you know a cure for this? I thought it might be the normal, but then that doesn't explain why if I rotate the view a little more that hole vanishes. Thanks guys, hope you like the look of her.. she's getting there ~Nat~ ------------------ JG3 "Naturlich" If you can't out run em.. OUT GUN EM! Nats FS-SDOE Site

Looks like a poly with non-coplanar vertices (of course, they need to be more than 4 to acheive this ). Solution: triangulate.IP: Logged |

Nat,Do you know how to build a face in Max? It's very easy. Go into Edit Mesh mode then select Face mode, hit the create button in the scroll down menu. When the cursor is over one of those verts Left click, and then in a counter-clockwise direction click on the two remaining verts (going that same direction of course) and viola, new face! If you were to go in a clockwise direction the normals would be pointing INTO the airplane, that's the reason for doing it this way. Hope that helps you. Just read your post again, if it's still acting up send me the SM and I'll fix it up for you and get it back asap. [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 09-08-2000).] IP: Logged |

Looking good Nat. I was messing around on the old version, I got the fan blades to rotate with the engine, but I moved your target props. Actually this worked pretty well, I damaged the right engine and the left engine kept pushing the plane to the right.Let me know if I can help you with that. IP: Logged |

Raider, can you write up or show me what you did to achieve that with the engines, it seems to me that on my model if 1 engine detaches the other engine stops, and I really don't want that, and it shouldn't happenThansk Raider, btw, the latest A10 looks alot lot better IP: Logged |

That is odd for a triagle to do that. Looks like a messed up normal or something but then it wouldn't be visible from all angles. Try changing the vertex order. I usually get that from non planar rectangles.IP: Logged |

I did the easy thing.. just pushed the bottom vertex up out of the way closing the whole, did the same with the corresponding vertiex on the other side aswell just so it didn't look lob sided in anyway, and it worked just fine like that Schaf, thats an Avenger GAU-8, only the A10 prototypes were fitted with Vulcan 20mm, once the A10a came into service the A10's fitted with Vulcans were refitted to the GAU-8. Currently, the pit is finished bar the new sitck I need to make, the canopy is done, the whole body and wings have been re-modeled with lower poly but smoother parts, the length has been shorten a little, the Avenger fires at 4200rpm, using 2 barrels instead of 1 to do this, firing unsynced from the same spot, this will allow me to add the option to fire at low rate (2100rmp) by splitting the guns, 1 gun on mg and 1 on cannon, so you can fire one or both depending on the ROF you want, this was an option on the early A10a's, but was soon taken away to fire at a fixed rate of 4200, since it takes less time to get the lead on the ground you need there didn't seem much point in having a low ROF. After practice with the Mavs, I can take out a target from 8 miles with a Mav when fired from 10,000ft, apparently this is about the right range for them, although mine aren't guided.. lol If anybody can explain to me how to calculate Ord points using Max that would be appreciated and Raider, tell me how you did that with the engines will ya! ~Nat~ Oh, also made a new pilot with flight helmet, need to work on the body now, just looks ugly... lol, and I'm probably gonna make a kind of ejector seat rather than seeing the poor dude leaping with hands in the air.. lol IP: Logged |
