Hey Guys, well, loads done to the A10, so right now I think it'd be a good time to have the DM tested by people other than myself. There's alot new added to the DM.. new damage effects, a different method of control surface damge so the AI always recognises even a badly damaged aircraft and some of the now more usual things like fuel leaks etc.

I have some problems with the smoke trails from the engines and engine fans, so if anyone would like to check this out and see how I need to alter them that would help, and also possibly someone to map the main parts since even after re-installing Max it's still not playing fair with texture mapping.

Anyway, if anyone would like to test the DM for me, or any of the other things mentioned I'd be grateful, then beta1 will be ready for release.

This pic shows the A10a having taken moderate damage to the left engine (shown by the large burn mark, and slight damage in 1 or 2 other places

Nat,

Send it on over buddy

Regarding the non-mapped parts. You can fix this by opening up each LOD part that is affected and make sure that the Texture ID is NOT zero, and that the part also has been mapped in Max. If you didn't map the part and it's texture index is Zero, it'll show up white like this (I think) since I've had this problem before.

Here's a pic that Master JT made a long time ago that is VERY helpful. (thanks again JT!)

Here you go Pete, it's just short of 2mb so I uploaded it to my site (not visible there though) it's located at http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/A10dmTest.zip

there is a short Readme with it also.

The problem I'm having with the mapping Pete, is that Max will no longer show me textures in the viewport, so I can map a texture to it, but I can't align or resize it at all since I can't see what I'm doing

I was given some tips/advice in the tech forum, but I know how to texture map, obviously, I did all those ships etc, but even after re-installing Max I'm still having trouble, one time I had the texture show in the viewport.. then the next time it was gone again, so it kinda leaves me up a creek here

Nat,

Something very strange is happening with the A-10. On the center fuselage it's all invisible! I can't even see it. I have no idea why. It shows up in OPS, but not in SDOE. Any thoughts as to why?

I'm not sure Pete, when I use it it shows up in SDOE with a really wierd texture, I'm not to sure where it's getting if from to be honest, you can see it in that pic.. I didn't put it there.. lol I've just had another look through the textures listed in OPS, but can't tell which one it might be.. this might be a problem that stays with it then till it ever gets texture mapped properly

Well, least I learnt some stuff building it. Thanks for checkin it out Pete, you've been a great help from the start

it shows up for me, obviously, so it's some texture that maybe only I have, can't tell which though, I'm d/ling AC3D to see if I can map it in there without having to register cause I just can't buy it, hope this works out now anyway

Nat,

It sounds like maybe you should reinstall Windows. You are having lots of probs and that may be required. Just a thought.

Oh, your older beta of the A-10 it turns out was the thing causing my SDOE to crash upon mission exit. I deleted that folder (A10) and reinstalled the new plane I got from you and now no more crashes. Go figure

You might be right about the re-instal Pete, but right now I can't be arsed to go through all the stuff I'll have to re-install just to maybe be able to map properly again, I'll get back to it when I aint so pissed off maybe

Well Max not letting you map properly is one thing, but now AC3D now working makes me think something is seriously wrong there. I know it's a hassle though.

One other thing about the A10, upon engine start everythings fine but then a few seconds later the left engine just dies on me. Strange. I do love the plane though. It's going to be really nice once the kinks are all worked out. I love the way the nose gear bobs up and down while taxiing when the brakes are applied. It feels nice and heavy. But did you notice the wheels center of rotation (on all of them) is a hair off? They all have a wobble to them (up and down, not side to side).

I'm gonna see what I can do by extracting the LODs now and seeing what's up with the fuselage.

Ok, here it is after some LOD editing...

hey thanks Pete aint so hard on the eyes now, I'm d/ling now. Yeah there is some general over all fine tuning needed (bobing wheels etc.. lol) Hey, I hope you can see the damage on her now when she gets shot up, and rather realistically (although by fluke not design) I've seen the AI fly on and do fairly well for about 5 mins with a wing tip missing, and I've actually managed to land after loosing both Vstabs and a wingtip with major aileron, elevator and engine damage.. those Ki61's really chew her up.. lol although I still think she's to easy to destroy even with the much larger obHits than any other aircraft.

But yet again Pete, I'm in your debt.. just shows that nothing beats good working knowledge of LODs.. Thanks
