Hey, I was just wondering when the next plane pack will come out. There have been SO MANY improvements to all of SDOE since the last pack. This is a huge credit to all that work so hard here. I can't begin to list them but I would like to see the new P-38 Lightning and P-51 Mustang in there! I know that there are many more improvements on the horizon but could we find a stopping point and pack things up? If there is something in particular like new damage modeling for all of the planes, I understand the wait. How about some sort of projected deadline for the next pack like the end of October or November? A Big THANKS to all of you builders! Please give me your input on this subject. THANKS...

At the moment, there are some pretty neat damage modeling and FM tweaks going on, but on separate projects. I think a worthwhile effort might be to look at the P-47 and new P-51, and take at least the basic damage "concepts" from those (gun jams, control surface damage, bullet holes, coolant leaks, engine damage reflected on cockpit instruments) and some of the stuff Tailslide is doing with airfoils and apply them to all the airplanes. That in itself would be a HUGE job. If you start adding in actual damaged .lod replacement, you almost need a separate 3D modeler for each plane, so maybe that needs to be a "labor of love" long-term project.

I would think the airfoil and damage modeling could be done by anyone confident with using OPS, once the "approved solution" is available, i.e. just add the new airfoils to the right places and do the tedious work of editing the damage properties. Your plane might not LOOK as cool as the Jug does when parts start falling off, but it would ACT the way it should, and all the planes would have the same "damage potential" online, which I'd think would be a bonus.

If you go that way, though, you're probably not going to see much in the way of "new" planes in the pack. Presumably we'd wait for the P-51 to be "finalized," which would give some time to bring the F-86, Pe-2, Stuka, etc farther along in beta...

to be honest I'm happy to wait, I agree with Jedi in that really to make a new plane pack worth it we either need somthing like 10 aircraft to add, or for the damage modeling etc to be added, it's a very big download for each plane pack, and alot of us still only have modems, meaning a very very long download, soI'd rather have a pack worth downloading, with lots new, than one that just has the new releases added right now and is basically only an update to 5.3

Meanwhile a few of us are testing modified loadouts so that it doesn't take 300 rounds of machinegun fire to take out a plane online.
It's quicker and easier to use a loadout than remodel the dm anyhow and will only affect online players.
After a bit of testing this week, we plan to have Spitfires and P51's which will be able to shoot up the 109's sometime soon!

New planes, new damage modeling, It sounds well worth the wait! Thank you for the replies. This stuff is great so it is hard for me to wait but I understand. Besides, this decision is best made by the builders and tweakers anyway...

Upping the ammo weight of the mg's so they do some damage Spanks.
While you can get shot down in a 109 and any plane for that matter, it takes an unrealistic amount of ammo to do so.
That applies to online of course.
The spit1a is the worst of all for firepower but the p51 is getting some extra to it as well.
The 109's mg will see a little added as taking out a p51 can be damn hard too.
All in all, it should eliminate the weakness of the mg's after all the cannon have been expended.
Rates of fire remain the same but obviously the data will be fudged to make it work online better, this is by no means a standard but we aim to use it to stop the frustration of kills online.

Thanks for all the hard work guys, I hate to wait too, but I know it will be well worth it.

One thought though, consider making mini-planepack 5.3c with just one plane. It preferably would be just one new plane like the stuka or F86F etc, but with all the newest dm and fm tweaks.

This way we could all give feedback and feel like we are helping to create something together as a community.

A new plane would also not run into the mismatch problem online for any pre-existing missions with our current set of I think around 40 planes. Holy S**t, no other sim can come close to that and more planes are coming every day!

Condor out

Certainly would be a lot more fun to actually be able to shoot down a titanium-clad 109 with a '51.

Emptying your entire store of ammo into a plane only to have it turn around and nail you, can kind of dampen the interest in flying these things online.

Good luck and God speed my son!

Another item to add to the "to do" list would be to change the obHits for all the ground structures in the game. A single 1000-lb bomb shouldn't be able to flatten all the buildings on an airfield. It also seems too easy to "frag" yourself on a low-level bomb run. While that IS a danger, there is almost no way to avoid it in the sim. Make all the bombs less powerful, and at the same time adjust the structure's strength so that "reasonable" damage is achieved without destroying yourself.

(Plus we can get the dam buster bombs working against the dams that way)

I agree about blowing yourself up from the bombs you just release. I've done it to myself several times. This will be especially nice not having to wory about this with the Stuka!

I redid all the loadouts for all the planes in my install of SDOE to decrease the bomb warheads so I wouldnt blow my self up at 3,000 ft. The numbers I entered for the warheads work great and dont level everything. If you would like to know what numbers I used let me know.

I havent seen your numbers but when the next PP does come out, I hope this type of thing will be included. Also I seem to recall reading in the Tech Forum that someone figured out how to do time delay bombs that would be cool too.
Patience because I know there is a great deal of work going on out there right now.
