I set the new system up last night (TBird, Asus A7V, 133mhz ram etc) and now Windows won't recognise any of my game controllers (i.e. HOTAS or wheel) in control panel. I think it may be a timing issue given the speed of the new system (1 ghz) or a mobo conflict. I'm using the on-board SB Live game-port. Has anyone tried this mobo and if so experienced problems? I'm going to clean install Win '98 on the new UDMA 100 drive I have - which may sort things out. Failing that - any ideas? I may try a digital game card and see if that fixes it - does anyone know the name of a good one? ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Thrustmaster's ACM is probably the best out there..... Even CH admits it supports more than theirs... sooo..... Reinstall should probably fix it though. Typically if you switch Motherboards reinstall. It is best and you don't get the old drivers still trying to load and causing trouble. Good Luck, Mirthain=FC=IP: Logged |

Try the PDPI L4.....it works for me. You need to have an ISA slot and the drivers wont work under Win2k. Of course I forgot the URL to their site. IP: Logged |

Tanks Dan the PDPI L4 was the card I was trying to remember. Unfortunately the A7V doesn't have an ISA slot so I'm stuffed if the re-install doesn't work. Will have to swap the mobo for an Abit KT7 if I can get hold of one.------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Well, I just swapped out an Asus P2B for an ABIT Be6II and had to reinstall win98 and win2k. Whenever you add a new motherboard, Windows loves to go haywire. I'm sure a reinstall of Win98 will cure it. If that doesnt work, you may want to check for a conflict between the sb live and your motherboard. Have you tried a different PCI slot? I've never owned an AMD system before, so I'm not sure how the BIOS is set up.At any rate, the sblive port should be ok as far as speed goes. I think that only on a dos game environment will you need to be worried about the system being too fast. I could be wrong about this of course. When you installed your sblive, did it prompt for the disk for the gameport? You should have seen it install part of the game port drivers during the sblive setup. IP: Logged |

Well I replaced the Asus A7V for the Abit KT7 and now the gameport is at least recongnised by Windows '98. Unfortunately I have very bad spiking (sitting on the runway with my hands off the stick, all the control surfaces are jumping arround all over the place). Does anybody have any bright ideas? If I can't resolve this I will have to try the PDPI L4, and if that doesn't work I'm stuffed because this system was built to run flight sims. So far all I can run on it is Unreal Tourney and Baldur's Gate!If I have to go the PDPI L4 route, does anyone know where they are available in the UK or Europe? ------------------ Yardstick painted this [This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 09-12-2000).] IP: Logged |
