Spanky here... Hehe Jerry, Yeah that whole bits-bytes thing is a pet peeve of mine LOL.
I pay 45 canadian including tax and that also includes the modem rental and the ISP.
So around 30 american. maybe closer to 25.
Check out this site all you Cable/DSL users.
GOTO, www.speedguide.net
first of all its a great page for info and stuff.
Then goto patches at the top of the left hand menu
Then get the patch that most suits your service.
If your not sure what do get. then get the updated win98 patch, Thats what I used.
-------------------------------
sguide_tweak_98.zip (updated 04/25/00) - Generic Registry patch for Windows 98/98SE (includes a fix for 98SE ICS, as well as corrected SackOpts location). This is an updated version of mtupatch98, it's an .inf file that tweaks the Registry and adds all the optimum settings for Cable modem, DSL, or any similar broadband connection. To install, extract the file, then just right-click and choose "Install" from the Pull-down menu. You need to reboot for changes to take effect.
-------------------------------
It got rid of constant
"computer has been disconnected from server" or somtning like that messages.
AND pretty much doubled my raw download speed. From around 40-60 up to a max of around 120 latly.
I would hazzard a guess Jerry that you should be able to get around 65+ with a 768 service.
They show you how to calculate your speed on that site and have test sites you can visit.
Good luck guys.
