While the petty side of some sdoe vets might want to point a finger at the debacle now unfolding in regards to B17-2 and laugh, I think that it is yet another sad, sad day for the supporters of this genre. I mean, let's face it, despite the rivalries between supporters of different sims, the fact is that when one 'team' falters, the whole 'league' suffers. I guess we can now file Hasbro along with the ranks of Activision and the non-publishers of FCTOE. Sad. As much as I once held a certain degree of animosity for their community, which I saw as rubbing the 'amazing' qualities of their not-yet-released sim in our faces, I harbour none of that pettiness now. This is bad for all of us. Very bad. Anyhow, it's not my intention to dump a load of dirty B17-2 laundry here, but I do think this is important to the sdoe community in a larger, more global (genre-wise) sense.

Just a couple links...

For those who have no idea what I'm talking about:
www.combatsim.com --> look for b17 news item dated august 30th

Probably the best post (1st one) out of all the flaming inferno that now is the bombs away b17-2 forum. Way to go Pops. http://www.bombs-away.net/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003150.html

S!

The way the industry is going with lack of interest in WW2 flight sims looks like SDOE is going to be the only sim left that can survive into the future. Good in some ways because I plan to be around to pick up all the enhancements but very bad in the long term, with no new blood being introduced the genre will eventually disappear completely. We can help by helping SDOE back into the mainstream by continuing our enhancements but it looks like the big boys have given up big time.

As one that does not play on-line with flight sims, this will not discourage me from buying B-17II. But I do feel that not including multi-player in B-17II will hurt the sales. I for one intend to buy ALL WWII sims once released to support the WWII sim community. We cannot let WWII (or WWI) sims die! So open up your wallets and dish out the cash!

P.S. The only WWII sim I havent bought (or downloaded) in rescent years is Nations... I cannot find it anywhere to buy!

Argon- I respect your position and understand your logic, but I for one refuse to support games when publishers like Hasbro think they can gut the sims to save money and we users will still go out and buy them. Sorry, but no. I may yet buy B172, but only once it hits the 15.99 discount rack.

what a HUGE dissapointment, i mean multiplayer is the only thing that has kept this sim alive (all the ppl who have contributed)

I was looking forward to flying a b17 with other human players behind the turrets, perhaps they will make a patch after the game is released. unlikely tho....

As I said at their forum, not only has the
b17II community suffered but the whole
gaming community suffers when a game
producer pulls this crap.

I think it could be even worse than we know
now. If Hasblow/Wryward would drop multi-
player it makes me wonder what else they
would drop.

I'll buy it.........what the hell. I don't do multiplayer anyway.

A lot of folks are forgetting that Wayward can be hurt because of their publisher's insistence on the title shipping in time for X-mas. (hmm..where have we seen this before?) The publisher is king...what they say goes. I'm sure the folks at Wayward are just as upset as the community is.

Hmm...where are those guys that slam SDOE for its online problems...and have praised B17II from oh so long ago? See you offline.....lol

I feel the same way, WM. I had high hopes for b172 until I read the news. It suddenly went from a game that I had a good deal of an interest in (man, those movies we saw earlier!) to no interest at all. Nor do I feel the need to support a publisher that will soon be added to my blacklist. Support or no, I imagine I'll be digging it out of the bargain bin next summer. With all of the squads being formed around the game, why wasn't making MP work one of the greatest priorities? I still can't believe it. You can't tell me that on a project like that one, they didn't know last year this time that getting MP to work (at all!) was going to very difficult. All of those poor folks chompin' at the bit... Oh, the blessed NDA.

Without plans to add a MP patch later on, I can't understand the attraction to the game anymore. As a matter of fact, no single player game holds my interest for very long. That's become painfully (to my checkbook) apparent. Well, at least I won't have to upgrade as early as I had intended...

I'm still reeling from the Looking Glass fiasco!

Can you tell my outlook for the game is not very positive? It has to do with one other big factor- no/little customization. I'll bet the life cycle of this one will peter out before anyone gets a chance to get into the guts of the game. The ball won't have a chance to get rolling. No MP means even further limited interest in a tiny market segment. Any game that doesn't know the meaning of 'share', be it new units, graphics, skins, or simply the gaming experience is going to have a short life. Not very promising at all. Now, if the reviewers give it any grief (you know it'll get a strike for no MP), it'll drop dead in its tracks.

Like ZooL says, it was the only thing keeping it alive...

I predicted this about a year ago... that there would be problems and controversies with that sim... in fact, I think those were my exact words. I have to say, though, the loss of multiplayer support far exceeds any of my expectations. Right about now, I have a feeling (just a feeling) that this is the tip of the iceberg. If the programmers were having trouble getting multiplayer to work, then chances are they spent a lot of time trying- a lot of time that wasn't spent on other areas of the sim.
By the way, did you guys know that the interior of their B-17 is done in 2D?

SPanky here...

Yep I had a good hard laugh, Specialy at those guys who wouldn't play SDOE but just used it for practice for B17-2.

HAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAAHA

I'll no longer buy it, Maybe Buy, Burn, Return.

Hasblo doesn't deserver anyones money after that. Well at least not those of us that were looking forward to the MP.

JT, Yeah I could see there being more problems then just the MP too. Tons of problems that will never get fixed since theres never going to be any patches.
