Since I'm on a break from work this week, I have done lots of fiddling with this to check some theories...

GOOD NEWS & BAD NEWS....

Good... Midway islandhas a rough texture and it doesn't look too bad. I'm going to add some window dressing to the model too fill in the gaps a little.

Bad.... The airfield under the water for seaplanes doesn't work. Put soemthing below the surface level and the game can no longer see it. Set the runway at sea level, the runway appears, but the grass becomes water. Sadly, you don't get any water splashing as you go. You also get texture problems as it tries to show two textures in the same place....not pretty. Had to try it though!

Good.... Have started on an Akagi shaped airfield. Reduced the thing to one runway, but since all the code is still there for multiple, this may not work well for the AI.
Texture is as per existing Akagi, but I've increased the model size to give the AI a margin. Looks o.k. as long as you don' tpark another ship right next to it!!!!

BAD....messed up the model centre and the planes start off flying under the stern of Akagi.....crunch......splash....glu, glug, glug..

Good.....this should be a simple fix

Bad.....it's my wedding anniversary today and I've spent too much time sitting by this keyboard....

Thats was the wrong bad for me to hear.....
I dont care about water splashing (plenty of that will happen on the way to the ramps....)
Doesn't need to be textured either since its under water. It just needs to be solid. Perhaps it just wasnt meant to be (water landings) for this sim. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a happy aniverary. If your wife gives you any grief about the computer, just remember a card I gave my wife. Two cats sitting on a fence under the moon. One says "If I had two dead rats, I'd give you one..." (We were very poor at the time). Been married 26+ years so it must have worked..

Have an idea... Remember that Jags Pacific terrain , the sea, is actually ground so you can land for it. So why dont you guys make a terrain where there are no hills mountains etc and paint it as water ?
