This took me longer than you would believe to sort out. Trying to make an island that looked vaguely like Midway, and yet was still big enough for an airfield. Read the posts from my last update, and I understand that the small island was supposed to be the airfield. Well, I've put the island where it should be, but it is a little larger now!
I could try to reduce the runways size ( not sure exactly on the numbers still ) but how is the AI going to handle that? Poorly I suspect. The whole point in doing this is to have an airfield that AI can use as well as players. This is a compromise I think we will have to live with. I've made it flat and fairly featureless, but thats just my crummy texture while i get it going.
The underlying texture tile ha sgot mangled with all my mucking around, but that is an easy fix.
The island itself is the airfield ( That came up in the other post too ). That seems to me to be a far better solution in this environment. When it comes to placing airfields in the original game, they are on tiles placed over the ground tile. Same principle! (saves re-materialling the tile....)
Still lots to do to make it look respectable.
A thought struck me last night though, while I was getting the airfield height right.....
What would happen if an airfield on a flat tile were placed at a height of -1 z axis relative to the water tile?
Could you land a seaplane on that surface and not fall through......hmmmm
If it works you could make an airfield out in the water for seaplanes only......
just a thought
