Hi guys,
what polygon count would you like to have for the meshes? I think i can bring them down to 800-900 faces and the cockpit to 400 faces.

Here is a short visual update on the italian state:

Fiat G50, ca 1200 faces

MC202, ca 1300 faces

MC205 Veltro, ca 1400 faces

MC202, MC205 Cockpit, ca 700 faces complete

I'd like around 2000 faces.. but our puters wont let us do that and play at the same time

My honest opinion on the faces is this... as low as you can take it without feeling that you don't like what you have done, however maney that may be.. then test it in a mission with 5 aircraft and see what your FR is and work from there, I don't think we have a correct idea of whats acceptable in the game for a specific number of faces, we mostly have ppl saying so and so maney are enough, so.. test it and see I say.

Are these planes already texture mapped?

Texture mapped, yes and no. They are mapped in Max, but somehow the textures of the sub materials export wrong mapping. I try today another method of mapping the planes.

I think that the key to good performance is setting up a number of LODs for each major part, and having the high detail parts switch out as early as possible. For instance, that thing on the forward left side of the fuselage of the 202 and 205 could switch out quickly, and just trust the texture to give the effect of the detail at slightly farther range.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing these planes!

If i'm not wrong the cowl of the Fiat G50 is a little big bigger and it's not flat, I've recently seen one in our italian air force museum...Btw, i'll try to find some good pics ASAP...

Hi Bastard

I think you mean the Macchi 200, which has the cowling you mean. I only know pictures from the G50 with a clean smooth cowl and the MC200 with the "older" looking cowl.
Also the dimensions are right, if i can believe the 3view drawings i used.

Whatta shame!!!!
An italian pilot who doesn't recognize his own planes!!!!
Btw, I can say I was pretty drunk when I posted the message...looks like u need the biggest excuses ever! Btw, u think u can work out from the G50 fuselage the MC200, it was pretty widespread and (always if I'm not wrong, but I don't have my books around...)had a better performance than the G50...
Sorry again...

Looking great Lem! It's also good you are shooting for lower polys as well, since people have a wide range of different systems.

Thx
I have now a 650 faces version of the g50 ready. Experimenting now with Texporter.
also LoDs of 350, 150 and 70 faces ready.
I'll send the meshes to Jedi end of next week.
Sorry, i don't have the time to get into Open Plane Studio and testing the meshes isn't possible anymore, because i sold my SDOE 4 months ago.
