It's absolutely so simple, I can't believe I didn't think to try it before.All I did was break it down with OL7, add in a complete set of referenced groups pasted in from another terrain, re-jig the group numbers and rebuild the SM.
Built a quick mission with an airfield start, fired her up and bingo!
The file references a model called airfield1plug, which I presume is the terrain chunk it sits on, which presumably sits over the terrain. This explains why some recent posts have mentioned texture colour differences with towns etc. They all work the same way. If the plug is textured seperately from the terrain......
So, all we need to do now is to change the OL file to point to a new plug model, shaped like midway, change the LOD references in the file so the airfield sits in a new location, and we have a fully functional midway island airstrip.
Going to try making the plug into a tile with a ship in it. May have to leave that one to Nat to deal with, not too sure about the material business that makes sea sea....
Still, got to learn it sometime....
