Off topic but here goes anyway. I've just ordered a 1gig TBird and Abit KT7 mobo but don't really want to cough up for 256megs of PC133 ram. Can I bump my PC100 up to 133mhz? It's good branded stuff (I forget which manufacturer) and it seems a waste to buy a couple more 128meg sticks of PC133 when DDRam motherboards are on the horizon and even the dreaded RDRam is falling in price. Also anyone had any experience with fitting heatsinks / fans to the TBird? I understand the core can crack pretty easily if the you are not careful. ------------------ Yardstick painted this [This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 08-22-2000).] IP: Logged |

Finally something *I* can answer :-DI'd say it'll be difficult to get standard SDRAM up 10 133Mhz. Some works, but most of 'em won't. This is one of the bottlenecks in overclocking today As for the heatsink/fan combo, yeah, I've heard some bad info about some of the sinks on the market. Be *carful* and if it doesnt fit, do *not* use a larger hammer. But you knew that already IP: Logged |

Yardstick,Stay with the PC100 and there is no need to overclock. The system bus of the Athlon is different from the Pentiums. It actually runs at 200Mhz using PC100 and is hard to overclock. Here is more info on the system bus: http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/athlon/pdf/bus_wp.pdf I am thinking of getting a Duron 600 to overclock and the same motherboard you ordered. MPosis, maybe I'm showing my ignorance here but I was hoping to only overclock the memory not the CPU - is that possible? - now I'm probably really showing my ignorance I know the KT7 will either run PC133 or PC100 hence I was wondering if PC100 can be run at 133mhz. You probably answered this already but I'm new to this over-clocking lark. BTW I will send you some updated pics of the Stuka cockpit tonight. ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

The motherboard can use a PC133 and PC100 but you can't really use the speed of the PC133. If you set your memory bus to 133Mz to take advantage of the PC133, you are actually setting the system bus to 266 Mhz. This is why it is hard to overclock. I think the highest people can go is 105-107 Mhz and you might as well try your PC100 at this setting. IP: Logged |

Yardstick,Can you post a couple pics here? I'd love to see your progress. I too am looking to upgrade, but probably just to a Coppermine 550E running at 935 Mhz. The cheap way to high speed. Still trying to decide on a video card as well. I'm thinking GeForce 2. IP: Logged |

OK Pete, I'll post some pics tonight. BTW thanks for the image of the cockpit, it's been very useful. This has turned out to be much more work than I had expected, than again they always are ------------------ Yardstick painted this IP: Logged |

Regarding the pic, no problem. Glad to help. I know, cockpit's are probably the toughest part of an OP airplane (and the FM too of course... one thing I may never fully get a handle on). I like doing the 3D modeling so I'll stick to that. Mposis, that pic you wanted... it's on the way.
