Yep, my first attempt at my own aicraft is going really fast, the A10 is now in the game and flyin The FM is about as good as I'll make it.. since we can't model high speed jets properly in anycase I've gone more for a feel.. she's pretty agile, but has a feeling of weight in her turns, top speed is currently 500mph level flight @5000ft, I might be able to increase this, but before I do I'll need to sort out the loadout, which should be various combinations of Mavericks, AMRAAM, Paveway, Sidwinder and Snake Eye, possibly also a multi rocket launcher. The Gatlin Gun is dealy against ground targets (ofcourse) and looks really cool as the barrels fire in a circulr motion imitating the spinning cannon, and it's a nice addition in AA Anyway, the major work is done now, so all the fiddly parts start now.. damage models, getting that damn cockpit canpoy smooth (tried and now it looks worse).. and well, you know the crap involved.. Here's a pic after day 2 ------------------ JV44 "Naturlich" If you can't out run em.. OUT GUN EM! Nats FS-SDOE Site IP: Logged |

Nat - you're just too cool for words! I'm really looking forward to trying this one out as I really enjoy (still) A-10 Cuba and was upset when Jane's canceled A-10 Warthog last year. I sure wish Parsoft or Interia would go back with all the current technology and do another A-10 simulation.------------------

Spanky here... Looking really cool man. Glad to see your trying some aircraft now. Me and mad dog made kinda a A10/lanc by getting rid of the 2 inside engines and the out side engines. THen pasting 2 b17 engines near the tail. and moving the wings towards the rear and down. THen I tried to make a huge gun that came out the bottom on the bombbay door. I never got that to work right though.

The A10 can't carry AMRAAMs, these need inertial/semi-active guidance during flight to target before the active radar seeker paints the target for itself. The A10's radar is only a simple air/ground moving tgt type.IP: Logged |

Cool!Talk to James "Razer747" Smith about making planes high speed. He is the master. He had my F-15C going 1500 knots! There is a gear ratio engine property that is the key. IP: Logged |

Thanks Pete, I hadn't thought off the gear ratio.. not that I'd know the best way to alter it anyway.. lol But having checked up on some details I've now got the A10 doing the correct speed of about 420mph, now I'm just hoping that all that enging power (9000lbs per engine) can get this baby off the ground with a full loadout on our lil runways IP: Logged |

I'm right there with ya Speedbrake. I loved A-10 Attack and A-10 Cuba and would love to see Inertia roll out an A-10 sim with today's graphics and knowhow. A-10 was what hooked me on flight sims. Good lookin A-10 Nat AQ[This message has been edited by ArthurQ (edited 08-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

Thanks Argon.. hell I'm buzzin right now, just can't stop working/testing on her, it's now 9:30 am here, and I've been at it since 3pm yesterday.. lol, guess that explains why it took 2 days to get it built and the FM done.. I'll suffer when it's done.. bad withdrawl.. LOLOne thing I promise.. the guys that like to fly the jets will love this, it really does feel good to fly, when I think the major work has been done then I would like some beta testers, so if anyone wants that job please mail me so that I can send you it when it's ready. Thanks guys ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

It's nice to see I'm not the only insane person here I lost MUCH sleep (due to excitement mostly)working on the Kestrel. I've slowed down now.hehe btw, smoothing canopies on the modern jets is a biotch! [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 08-20-2000).] IP: Logged |

Damn skippy it is! the front canopy has been smoothed and looks great in Max and OPS, but looks crappy in the game.. the rear canopy I didn't smooth and looks better... thing is, in Glide the rear canopy looks great, in D3D it's blockyIP: Logged |

Hi guys, Not wanting to put down the fabulous work but for anyone really wanting to drive a Hog in a contemporary enviroment- FalconF4 has had a patch for some time that allows you to fly a whole bunch of a/c including A10s!! I hardly ever fly a viper anymore in campaign. And if you didn't know- F4 is THE most realistic sim around IMHO. After trying most of the other sims it's onlt SDOE and F4 that have space on my HDDIP: Logged |

hhhmm... Day 4....Model now finished.., the gear bay under the wings has been added, the IR (?) sensor on the ight side of the fuse below the canopy has been added, but most of all, a big thanks the Jetlag for finding the problem with the canopy for me, so once I add that sh'ell be lookin all pretty Right now I'm just finishing work on the landing gear, re modeled and re-DOF'd and the whole a/c rebalanced. There would have been much more done, but I have a small bllod sugar problem (diabetic) and since kickin my blood sugar through the roof this morning I've fely like crap all day and sittin infront of the puter working in Max and OPS makes me dizzy. Pete, I'll get the gear sorted out then send it you over, probably gonna be tomorrow though now. Just remember it's just early beat and after 1 day of you having it lots will have changed.. lol Mostly now work on the pit, but she flies now like she will in the end IP: Logged |

Thanks Nat. Disregard the email I just sent then How did you fix the canopy? (so maybe I can fix the Kestrels) Thanks [This message has been edited by Pete Hawk (edited 08-20-2000).] IP: Logged |

Jetlag found it out, apparently the texture flag is incorrect, he's sent me the change, I just need to extract the SM and alter it, the canopy I'm using was from the F14 with my LOD replacing the origonal, so it just carried the fault over from the F14, so this might help you. This is what should be in the refernce: [TextureFile] ./aircraft/F14d/textures/CanopyGlass.TIF 12 ; texindex 64 ; width 64 ; height 0.000000000 ; modelDist 802243 ; flags 0 ; CRC Obviously just change the TIF route to your own, but this fixed the prob, he sent me a pic of the Hog with this done and it looks 200% better btw, I'll be sending you the Hog tomorrow (today), all the major stuff is done, so it'll be cool to have you play around with it and pass back suggestions Thanks Pete ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Nat,Check this out though, using a 802283 flag for my canopy texture (for Alpha), look at how nice it looks in OPS. But still looks like crap in the sim. ------------------ Hawker Hawker's Aerospace IP: Logged |

thats pretty much what I had Pete, but it seems that the 43 flag makes the difference in SDOE.. yes, wierd I know.. lol I'm going to have to find Hippies new ol tools since the old extractor doesn't like trying to rebuild the SM file after I change this flag...IP: Logged |

The thing under the right forward fuse is a Pave Penny laser designator. It would kick ass if you'd make a pair of triple AGM65 Maverick or Mk82 racks on the inner wing pylons Great work BTW, looking forward to more SDOE jets

I'm uploading the current beta to my site now, but you'll only get a link to it from here. I've had a few little problems and may revert to an earlier version to sort it out, but, ig you would like to download the current (work in progress) beat then the link is http://members.xoom.com/naturlich/A10.zip There are things still to be added and a problem or two to sort out, so please if you do get it, then don't tell me this doesn't work, or that you found such and such a problem, but I would be more than glad for suggestions/fixes for the problems, such as.. how do I stop the viloent shaking at high speed, how do I add more lift whilst lowering top speed.. can someone put a texture on that damn sight.. lol (think it's corrupting my graphics badly) the problems with lift/shaking/top speed I didn't have on the early beat, so I may revert to that and bring it up if no-one is able to help fix the current one. Top speed should be between 420/434mph Oh, and you'll be glad to know that I will be adding the Mavs they will replace it's current "standard" rocket loadout. Thanks for any help guys, and have fun with her (textures included Jet ) IP: Logged |

Wow, now that's an Alpha .000001! Hehe. I thought my Harrier was early... ok, just playing. It's cool and is coming along well Nat. The gear is really nice and looks pretty darned accurate too. The canopy (at least for me) looks well, splotchy. I'm not sure if it was fixed in this one or not, but on my PC it looks 10 times worse than my Harrier's (which too, needs work). Just constructive things here I'm pointing out. The FM obviously needs lots of work because this thing feels like an RC plane, almost made of styrofoam. It needs some weight added to the mix. It's too responsive I think. Adding some weight may correct this hopefully. Anyhow I was just about to hit the hay then I saw you posted it. So I'm darned tired right now and will look at it more later on today. The potential is really there though. Your modeling skills are really good and in the end this plane is gonna be nice! Just calling it as I see it IP: Logged |

guilty on all counts Pete as per my mail to you I'll rehash it here for all..I've had some trouble with the A10 recently, so last night I reverted to version 4 (or something like that) and brought it upto date on the model and this seems to have sorted out all the major problems I was having, somewhere along the road I made some changes and couldn't reset back, these cause the plane to take off fine when fully loaded, but almost verticle when unloaded (amoungst other problems) Trying to fix this just made the whole thing very responsive. I want the aelerons to be very responsive, but the elevators shouldn't be, A1o's (far as I know) have excellent control and go where you put the stick, but are heavy, so I think my thoughts on aeleron/elevator control will give that, but yes, the version you and Jet have just isn't right and I was pretty annoyed with it, the one I'm on now is much better. You know that any and all pointers/comments from other builders wont fall on deaf ears here Thanks Pete ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Nice work Nat. Are you planning on attempting to model the speed brakes as well? Also, don't town down her handling too much, shes a heavy plane but she can still roll at 200 degrees/second - so she may be heavy but she can move that bulk around in a hurry! -Stark IP: Logged |

I probably will add them, but thats one of the last parts to be done, I've just got her back to how I want her, speed correct etc. I agree about the handling and have kept it to a great extent, right now I', trying to make the elevator a little more efficient, she's comming along again now after a little setback Also started on the pit, whaich has been remodeled now ~Nat~ IP: Logged |
