I tried a test today with the Harrier, and found that you don't have to position parts more than once Max. First, get it centered on the origin with no rotation. Then you export it as an OBJ file. Import into OPS, position it (along with other parts of the entire plane you are doing, or just do some parts at a time), export them all after you have them positioned in this test sm file, open a new instance of OPS with original plane that you are going to replace, and import the prepositioned parts (left wing for a left wing, right stab for right stab... etc) and bingo, perfect alignment.

Worked for me today. I'm gonna try this method to it's fullness on my next model.

What you should be able to do is just move/rotate parts in MAX and then import them into OPS and the positioning rotation should take care of its self.
