thank god, there was no readme file stating "unzip into FS dir", otherwise I'd have wiped out everything.

I've installed Aladar's V1 and I have had no probs at all. Sounds to me like another prob which appeared at the same time being mistaken for being Aladars fault.

I'm not aware of any circumstances where Winzip will delete files, it only overwrites files with same name, writes files and creates new folders, please tell me if I'm wrong.

All I can tell you is that when Jeeves unziped Aladar's V-1 he found the same weird folders that I did. Jeeve's said the zip was full of extra folders. Aladar has confirmed that he knows what the problem is (see Help thread).

I doubt its my Mistels... I did not use the Winzip folder association which is why you have to create the folders yourself. Also Ive had no other complaints about what is being described by Jerry and yourself.

For the record, I do not have this problem. (but who knows, it may pop up on me like it did to Jerry)

Jeeves, I didn't mean "I knew what the problem is", i meant "I see what your talking about". Glad to see that you calmed down a bit (or did you??). What I'm gonna do.. Rezip the files, test it out myself first, and report my findings. Again, sorry for f*#king up everyones comps.

ok guy's ....I'm pi*ç%
that's for shure!

Now here's what I've found:
In the Training folder just rename the
'shermanII' to 'shermanIIwhatever'
...and than it works again...don't ask my why!

Well that's just a short solution..the problem with all those folders messed up, just
remains!! The good thing is that the game itself works fine now :-((

mhhhmm what about beta testing your stuff before releasing it (even just your zip-file)??

GT, your symptoms and mine are exactly the same and I agree 100% with you about people testing everything thoroughly, including the zips, before releasing their creations to the public.

Thanks for finding out how to at least get back into the Training Missions. I'll try it when I get home and find out how much damage has really been done. Jeeves is sending me his Missions Folder so I can reconstruct most of what has been lost. I sure hope I can avoid doing a complete reinstall and download of all the planepaks.

I'm sorry to hear you had this problem but at least now I know it wasn't just some isolated mistake on my part that only I am capable of making.

Same thing happened to me.

It wasn't the V1 in my case, it was the me110!

Still, no harm done. Just delete the unwanted directories. Winzip only overwrites files after a prompt. It adds the directories where they weren't already there.

All that happens is we all know exactly what planes and add-ons Aladar has on his machine right now....

DON'T PANIC

I think Aladar will be checking more carefully in future, but hey, we all make mistakes. If anyone is experiencing odd CTD's or anything else odd, it probably is nothing to do with this.

I blame the Gremlins.......and the Pixies.....and the Gnomes that live in the giant mushrooms.....

Oops! There is something Wrong with the Sherman trainging Mission.
Well, I did betatest the Sherman quite a bit, but I only used the hangar mission I had made, and some other test missions, I didnt test the training mission, as I thought I just made a copy of the hangar mission anyway. SO sorry for the inconvenience, you can fix it by just deleting the sherman training mission.

WHEW!!!! Thanks to GT and Jeeves I'm back up. First, I totally deleted my hosed training folder. GT got me back into the Training Missions so I could then determine which planes had training missions in the data par files and were therefore OK. Then, using Jeeve's training folder and my uncorrupted deleted folders I restored the rest.

I guess until I fly Training Missions in all the planes I won't know for sure but a random sample shows that everything works. So I avoided a complete reinstall.

GT, you should also check your media/aircraft folder. I found alien folders there also.

Since my problem could have also been related to the new tank download I removed all remnants of the V-1 and the tanks. If someone can give me an ironclad guarantee that those files have been fixed I'll try them again. Until then I don't ever want to see a V-1 or a tank again!

Thanks again GT and Jeeves!!!!

Hey Jerry, I've fixed the V-1, as it now contains no paths to fuck up your sytem. Give it a shot, it didn't place any new folders in my test directory. Go to simfiles.com and look for Non Corrupting V-1.

ok guy's

I've re-done every download to find out
which was fç**ç - up

-----------------------------------------
FOR THE AIRCRAFT-FOLDER
IT'S THE BF110 !!!!!!!

1. check your media\aircraft folder
(there are a lot of empty folders in there!)
2. check your mission\dover folder
(there's also a empty folder inside)
3. the training folder should be ok
4. check your 'programms' folder
(now there're two new ones ..'sounds' and 'textures')

-----------------------------------------
FOR THE TRAINING-FOLDER
IT'S THE V-1 BuzzBomb

thanks to aladar ... otherwise I would have
spent my stupid time with motorcycling, or
playing football/soccer...instead I've checked
all my folders in SDOE...GREAT!!!!

...and NO I don't think that I've to make
the unzip in a separate folder first!
(I know that the planes are alpha/beta
stage, but at least the zip-file should
be ok)

I have yet to install some of the items you guys have, but I too have had in the past CTDs based on training missions. Sometimes it was because there was no training mission in the folder even though it was indicated in the listing. Other times it was because the mission was set up with Allied or Axis squadron selections for both sides of the mission.

At any rate what I did that seemed to fix the problem was go into the training missions and edit them for correct squadron and aircraft selections and resave them. it worked for me.

I accept the risk of being flamed when I say this:

I consider *ALL* stuff released to this game, regardless of origin, to potentially hazardous. This is not in any way me meaning that the stuff that is produced isn't up to snuff. BUT, having said that, I feel it is the responsibility not only of those who create the zips, BUT ALSO VERY MUCH THE PEOPLE WHO UNPACKS THEM!
So whenever I download something, I chekck the zip to see if there is anything I can't recognize. If there is, and the readme doesn't say anyhing about it, I unzip manually. Problem solved.
I think the bottom line of my ranting is that WinZip is very easy to use, and if there is anything unclear, there is always an excellent help file.

And again: I realize this can be viewed upon as me saying 'If you can't handle ZIP's then you're stupid and should blame yourself' but this is not the case. I just feel that the discussions in this thread has completely grown out of proportion. Not to mention the thread in flame wars.

There. I'm back to lurking :-D

This reminds me of when my LAN and online play was destroyed by a suspect SDoE download. Everyone said it wasn't possible. I was pretty pissed, considering it was what made me decide to permanently delete SDoE from my HD and never play it again. And I never have. Sniff...
